Sorry, I have to point out I am not American despite my nick.Travmies wrote:only on behalf of the culturally uneducated and of course insane.
Finnish culture? I just learned from a survey that Finns reportedly have no culture. Man, coming from a village with no pub you should be glad of the lack of culture. I got three pubs and karaoke every bloody night.Finland has many layers and Hank is just at the very bottom of what we call Finnish culture.

Which part of Hank is tryin to present a realistic picture didnt you understand...I really am hardpressed to explain to people with brains in thier a*se to what reality here is...debonaire wrote:I understand that you are a friend of Hank and no wonder you are defending him so vogorously...fair...even I would do that for a friend...
So you mean to say that HANK is presenting the real picture of finland...and i should listen to his @#$% advice like moron the way do...Dude you are free to worship him...but I don't need advises from a selfish, arrogant finn on how to deal myself and adapt to finnish society...
Well all the advice aint goin help you if you re not willing to *listen* instead of *Wainting to hear what you want to hear*
What you think as friends might be only your acquaintances..I have many finnish friends and trust me,it didn't take me a decade to befriend them...They care a !"#¤% about what that creepy Hank says..Moreover,he is only creating negative publicity for Finland...you mongloids can kiss my ass...
Do you even know what Friendship is in Finland?"
If you are of this view, you definitely belong to both of the category of being *stupid* and *idiotic*...You mean to say that non-finns have no idea about finnish way of life even if they have been living here for decades...Then you have completely wasted your time here if you are not even able to understand that...BTW, I have many finnish friends to help me understand the finnish way...
Ask the American about the Indian culture..and you get to know the Indian Society....Now go Figure what that means..
I know who and what I am and where I belong. I dont need a nincompoop to come n tell me about my identity..And you are so wrong when you said that one should forget about one's culture when living abroad...Is that what you have done??You lost your identity and you culture just to blend in the finnish society??How foolish of you!....In this case, you are someone with no identity which is worse than being a refugee...
Wait till you shed those rose colored glasses ....I don't know what's your perception about finnish culture...For me,its a wonderful culture with its pros and cons like any other culture in the world...maybe for you guys its only about moaning and bitching about day to day problems...

Ah, see now if I was barearsed and 20 I'd already be gone. Even with their odd mealtimes. But I am an old man with obligations. Nothing about being brave... lot of soldiers die in a war and are called brave, whereas someone might point out the stupids walked into an ambush...Travmies wrote:Well, learn the language, learn the culture, and a flight is only about 100€ -150€ at the most. I thank f**k I don't read surveys and believe in them, nor let some foreigner define my culture (to be inferior to their own)Travmies wrote:Someone, somewhere says Finland has no culture, if there is a society there is a culture....and thank f**k you do not define that aspect

But quite a few people believe in surveys and quite a lot of Finns believe in what foreigners think of them. Like now princess Märtha Louise of Norway having said that nobody knows of Tarja Halonen. And Ilta-rag is "outraged". Pffttt...

Ok got it, to save Finland from what ever
All foreigner should return from where ever they come from............but........
All Finns will need to return to Finland because most country will see it as a racist act as well
Of course that will mean that over a 1,000,000 angry Finns in Finland, however on the positive side 120,000 + foreigners will enjoy the look on Hanks face.

No, just the dipsticks that can't use a search engine or evenTravmies wrote:All foreigner should return from where ever they come from............but........
the search function on this forum before they start posting drivel.
I'll show up at the airport or whatever port of escape they
choose to wave.
And all the imbecile foreigners who think it's funny to take
their stupidity to court in trying to take on the TV license agency
by claiming they didn't know they needed to have a license.
Even though I'd be losing !"#¤% of income, I'd still be happy
not to have to translate yet another one of these pieces of
paper for people who have lived in Finland long enough that they
should know Finnish already, let alone the laws of the country.
For that matter, add into the last group the bunch of nitwits who
really think they're going to get into a university/Votech/whatever
by suing the school.

The point of the whole conversation here is this.
Some of us in this site tell what's it like in Finland, and what you will face when you move here.
This is to avoid the immigrants to come to this site after they moved in to whine that Finland is not what's it cracked up to be, Finns are rude and it's weird in here.
I welcome all the foreigners to Finland who can support themselves. I don't want any freeloaders coming in here expecting to take advantage of the social system that is funded by high taxes. We have enough those people on our own already. I'm not particularly big fan of Finnish stereotypes, so I prefer to make non-Finnish friends, which I have plenty of.
I don't even know if Hank's got any Finnish friends, he seems to know so many non-Finns, so that makes him an expert in interpreting what the non-Finns feel living in here and then translates that to aspiring immigrants so that they know what to expect.
If you think these things should not be discussed openly, you're welcome to open up your own http://www.happyfinland.org site and play amongst yourself and organize rides from the airport for the newcomers to this wonderful land.

Get in there...
The problem is that yourself and Hank are giving a Black and white view of Finnish society, which any joker with a half-wit brain can do. The fact is we, who come to Finland generally do so, not because we love the cold winter, Finnish food, the countryside, lifestyle and so on. Its because of a relationship with a Finn, who ever that maybe. Yes, in some cases we stay if the relationship ends, but generally not. So, the ones of us who do stay in relationship love our partners far more than anyone else, because have to listen to your !"#¤% too

Yes, it is called the HBS - a.k.a. "hot blonde syndrome". The fact of life is that when this ailment is diagnosed only a shock treatment to both of the parties can help - like hysterics in the old time were slapped on the face to make them stop screaming. The foreign partner is all stupid and in love. The Finnish partner is all stupid and in love. There is no scientific brain left to think the *realities* of life. The question is then in 2-3 months after living in Nowheremäki (without the pub) there starts this sudden strain on the relationship at the in-laws farm. Which then usually ends up in a break-up (statistically) as the Finn doesn't understand the "realities of life as a Foreigner in bufftuck village" and the foreigner is expected to fend on his own. Just read Zakarias lament in the "families" forum. Do you want to have been the one that told Zakaria to "think positive". HBS cases need to be thrown in the frozen lake, bolted into the sauna with a bucket thrown in and flogged with birches until they're raw. To use their brain and *think*. Otherwise they'll fail life and relationship and the children are the ones to suffer. A healthy relationship - long term one - is built on mutual respect and understanding on the spouse and their culture, and "admitting to the facts" - like there is no job for a capetlayer in Elimäki. You're the prime evident example of a HBS as you have stated - but it took you two years (also the statistical break-up point) to figure out your arse isn't gilt and you had then the guts to stick. Theres a lot of others who whine and then leave. However if someone had said to you you need to bite the bullet and rethink your career - would you have saved the two years of wantonly trying to hit your head in the brick wall?Travmies wrote:Its because of a relationship with a Finn, who ever that maybe
