Hey all,
Anyone know where I could get rabit meat. Not sure what the official english term for it would be. But you know: Take a cute little bunny, kill it, skin it, take the meat.
I want to make a typically belgian dish rabit (or is it hare) with prunes. But not a clue on where to get the meat so that is a bit of a clincher.

Stockmann herkku...go to Hakaniemi and ask the butchers in the market Halli (the red brick building), something like Sello citymarket frozen section...
Cheers, Hank W.

I think Lidl are doing a special meats week. I saw the flier and it listed:
moose pate
bear pate
duck
rabbit (or possibly was it hare)
and something else.
I heard it's so those city kids down in Helsinki get a taste of the wild. Next weeks starts the campaign to educate kids that milk isn't manufactured in a factory.
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Yes, Lidl had game in this week (hare).
And this is the place in Hakaniemi market hall
http://www.reininliha.fi they always have it.
Also Chef Wotkins, not sure about the Sokos place but the factory shop nearly always has some.

And I think Citymarket will have it in their freezer cabinets.
I have rarely seen rabbit, you are more likely to find hare.

You're more likely to find hare in Finland rather than rabbit. There are loads of hunters out there. I sure you know some hunters but just don't know they're hunters. Ask around.

Cool.
I checked the recipe, its actually rabit meat and not hare meat that I need. I suppose because rabit meat is softer.
In any case, what am I looking for in the store by the way, or on those websites ?
Im pretty sure its not pupu

and I couldnt find kani there.
Is there like a special name for the meat like there is nauta for cow meat which in my opinion would be lehmälihaa but the finns dont seem to agree with my logic.

My fiancée is not fond of having rabit in the first place so bringing home a live, cute bunny will push her over the edge I think.
More rabbit for me to enjoy though.
I found a place that has rabbit meat right here in Kouvola actually. Some kind of special-meat store. Has all kinds of meat.
40€/kg though. But then you have nothing but filets.
Any donations ?
