Apple Cider

Post by FinnLizzie » Fri Oct 26, 2007 12:07 pm

Does anyone know where I can find apple cider? As in no bubbles and no alcohol :? I mean like the lovely reddish brown kind that you can warm on the stove.

If they don't have it here that's okay too. :(

That is just plain and simple "Omenamehu"...you can buy it in any super market in a one litre box.

There is also a "white" glögi available in the shops through winter. Mostly sold in tetrapaks. I guess it is mostly apple juice with some spices, not sure, but it contains no alcohol, no bubbles and is nice warmed up.

But I agree with Peterf.... what's the difference between apple juice and alcohol-free cider :?

That looks like the apple juice we made ourselves a few years ago. It is just unfiltered which is why it is cloudy. Did awful things to my digestive system! Scrumpy looks like that too.... but scrumpy is definitely not alcohol-free!!!

My guess is that stuff is just apple juice and cinamon...maybe some brown sugar...I think in Finland it would be home made...Omena Booli

Recipes all over the internet for Haloween.

I'll check it out. Thanks!

I guess it's a big difference to me because I'm from Michigan(the apple state) and it just has a very different flavor; and famers only sell it in the Autumn.

There was a similar thread a year ago, and some people recommended some specific brand of apple juice as a passable alternative. I don't remember which it was, but I'm sure you'll find the thread if you search for apple cider.

In swedish there is "äppelmust", which is unfiltered apple juice. I don't think there is a word for it in finnish. But you'll probably find local farmers, that have their own apple presses, selling unfiltered apple juice. Or apple press stations (mehustamo) might also sell it, I'm not sure. But these might have (I just did a quick google, so I'm not sure):

How about the Brämhults apple juice? I haven't tasted it myself, but it looks unfiltered: http://www.bramhults.se/

Know what you mean. My folks are in Somerset (apple county GB style) and there is a terrific selection of apple juice, scrumpy, cider, vinegar and brandy. I love visiting the orchards there is always something new to taste. Last year we watched cider being made the old fashioned way, in a huge press (this was at a museum in Wells, or maybe Glastonbury). The smell was incredible. I've heard it has been a good year for apples in Somerset. Lucky them, 'cos I didn't get one decent apple from my trees this year :( But the first year we spent in this house (Espoo) we had a ton of apples so we took them to a local press where they made them into juice for us. The colour was similar to that in your photo. They charge a bit extra for pasteurization but it was still worth doing. We had apple juice for the whole winter. I should have frozen some though because the last few bottles really upset my stomach, I guess they had started to ferment :ohno:

Nej, nej... "äppel" means "apple"

Äppelmust tillverkas av naturliga färskpressade äpplen.

Interestingly enough, its relative "Julmust" is in furious competition with some well-known cola brand sales on Xmas in Sweden... see
