Buying a left-handed banjo

Post by fauxfinndotcom » Tue Oct 30, 2007 8:27 am

I am in Tampere and in search of a left-handed banjo for a Christmas gift. Does anyone have any recommendations where to look? THANK YOU! ;)

Is a left-handed banjo in any essential way different from a right-handed one, except for the order of the strings to be reversed?

I guess you'll find info in shops selling musical instruments, for a list have a look here

Yes, my understanding is that the head is angled differently and the neck is different as well (to accomodate the reversed string gauges, I'd think)

There should be several musical instrument shops in Tampere... not sure but this sounds like something that might require ordering separately - not necessarily in stock... so it's best to act asap if you wish to get the banjo by Christmas!

I believe it indeed makes a difference whether it's a left-handed / right handed one. For the reasons stated but also due to the position of that "extra" string, see pic!
