Getting credit after only 1 year? - Contract Mobile

Post by Turbomac » Tue Oct 30, 2007 3:56 pm

How long do you usually have to live in Finland before they give you credit for stuff like contract phones, laptops, etc...? Does it depend on the cost of the item? Or customer history? Or...?

About six months ago I tried to buy a mobile phone (N95) on contract, but they refused me credit because I hadn't lived here long enough.

I've now been in Finland for just over a year & have permanant employment. So I am now thinking about trying again, but maybe for a slightly cheaper phone (as I've heard a lot of bad things about the N95 anyway). We've got cable TV & broadband through DNA, so they are maybe the most likely to accept me (with my payment history with them), but last time I looked Suanalahti had better offers.

Any advice appreciated?

Thumb rule is - 2 years resident before you have a credit history.

I've been here for 13 months and i have a laptop on credit, a sofa on credit, a loan with the bank and i have had quite a few quick loans. I got the laptop after being here for 6 months.

Edit - and a mobile phone on contract but i did start full-time work 3-4 weeks after i got here

i think to have heard somewhere that at least DNA has lifted the 2-year-in-Finland rule, and I also think to remember that some other phone providers followed suit, but I don't know anything more concrete. Maybe e-mailing or phoning saunalahti (if this is the deal you're most interested in) will give you the most certain info.
