Gordon Ramsey in Helsinki - Anyone see him?

Post by pmcguire » Tue Oct 30, 2007 12:17 pm

Or more to the point does anyone know what he was actually doing here?
I can safely assume that he had a good moan about the food here, anything else?

If I would have known I would have liked to try and meet him :(

He was visiting Chez Dominique. They wanted some tips on how to get from two Michelin stars to three.

There was an article about his visit in Hesari this morning and I believe there is a video of his visit on Hesari's webpages. I'm pretty sure it will be in the International Edition at 13:00.

Saw some clip on TV about it either this morning or last night, he wasn't too keen on trying the Mämmi... :)
Interestingly, he said he had 6 Finnish chefs working for him, so obviously he thinks there is some talent here.

He has been analysing "Finnish Cuisine"...
Couple of samples..
Translated to Finnish so the auto censors does not cut in..

Vauvan Kakkaa..
Suomi-ruoka on sontaa!
Perhaps he was just refering to Mammi..but the ILta Rags both report his comments ...out of context of course.

People do not become more irritable as they grow old - they simply stop making the effort to avoid annoying others.

His cookbook publisher must be calculating now the price they must pay for the remaindering store to take the edition.

- Do you feed this to donkeys and horses?
- Only at present.

I think those pasties had died of old age

I guess that his new show will be called Hel's Kitchen, and all he has to do is learn some Finnish swear words... and find some Finnish cooks to slag off

... easy money!
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

And squeeky cheese with pip... sorry cloudberry jam. But fresh, warm Karelian pies with egg butter are sound.

This has been discussed before ... mämmi with cream and sugar is quite ok... without it's really not very good.

I have suggested many times that mämmi with cream and sugar could be improved by removing the weakest element of the three... i.e. the mämmi.

And I have been told by a friend from Kuusamo that if you can get fresh home-made rubber cheese, it tastes nothing like the shop stuff. Maybe.

How comes people - even Finns - describe mämmi instantly as looking like !"#¤% (suggesting, therefore it must be !"#¤%). But try saying to a French how mousse au chocolat looks like. It doesn't look any better

Mämmi - love it or leave it.
