Day Care in Vantta question

Post by Sweetnut » Thu Nov 01, 2007 8:06 am

I have a 5yo and a 3yo, and am looking into daycare for them. I submitted my application to the city of Vantaa and was told there were 100 other children waiting for care. I can start working as soon as I find daycare and really dont want to wait 4 months. She told me that they are supposed to find daycare within 2 weeks SOMEWHERE. But it could be in the city of Vantaa anywhere. That could be a huge hassel if it is on the other side of the city! So I was wondering about private daycare.

How do you find out where and who has a private daycare? I also would like the private daycare to be part of the preschool program with Vantaa, because I dont want to have to move my 5yo to a new daycare when she turns 6yo. She is a pretty shy kid and doesnt like change so I would like to keep her with the same group of kids. Another reason I dont want a daycare far away and then will have to move her for school. We live in Pähkinärinne and would like something near here.

My girls speak mostly English. They have been learning Finnish since we moved here 1.5 years ago, but they are not fluent yet. My husband is Finnish and does speak it to them at home, but they still need him to clarify in English sometimes. So a Finnish daycare would be fine as long as the teacher speaks English as well so if the girls needed something they could tell her.

I cannot answer your main question, but I can tell you that the teachers at the day care in Varisto could speak English quite well.
Also the teachers at our kids' school in Vapaala also are happy to speak English with me. So the language should not be a problem... plus there are often a couple of foreign kids in each class (and they pick up Finnish quite quickly)
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

That is the park we play at daily! So maybe soon there will be 2 less little screamers out there! :P You can pick them out they are the only two finnish looking children who scream in English!
