Following the qualifications discussion, today I came across a new one: Kandiaatti So where does that fit in?
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

It depends what age and what faculty. Its basically the masters degree according to the old system. Back in the "good old days" you had to pay an extra fee to become a "maisteri", as it was a bit of an honorary title and really in the 1970's and 80's didn't matter. However these days with the bolognese process the "kandidaatti" is equivalent to a bachelors degree. To add to the confusion medicine has a slightly longer study path, so there a "candidate" is a doctor still studying and only a licentiate is a "ready" doctor.
Cheers, Hank W.
