Is it sensible to buy a second hand car now ?

Post by sky_ozone » Sun Nov 04, 2007 9:26 pm

I want to buy a small family personal car upto 1.5 for e.g toyota yaris. So as i heard on this forum that car tax is going to down for new cars upto 17%, should i wait till next year to buy a secodn hand car or it will make no difference even if i buy now.
which car models are famous in finland for small cars?

Suggestions please?

You should probably wait as long as you can. But if you need it, then you need it. There are currently heaps and heaps of second-hand cars sitting at dealers waiting to be sold. This, coupled with the news that the tax is going down probably means that it's not such a bad time to buy.

I am in the same situation as you... I sold my car 2weeks ago :D and now that this new tax law comes in affect 01/08 i am not to sure if the used prices will start adjusting now or after the new year!!! For example a used (2005 Ford Focus 1.6) is around 15-16000e today, should it drop at least another 1200e or more seeing new 0/8 prices will drop around 2500e! Any ideas anyone

So you got your answer faster and better than a PM to me...
If you really really need the car, yes..wait after new year..
if you think that you want one, it doesnt matter when you buy..
But put a budget and then realize that the interest on 2nd hand cars are almost double than new ones..
There are tons of information in this forum for the questions you have..so please read them before you ask mroe Q's..

I wonder if the prices will ever go down to central European levels...

..best small car?

Renault Twingo

Check oikotie - it consistantly comes up as the cheapest second hand car short of a Skoda - purely down to the ugly factor.

And if you get an orange one, you knock another 1000 euro off the second hand price..
