Agree Sammy and agree that it's small money to live on. Still, I would take that job any day if the only other choice was to show myself at Kela's door.
Some of us should talk more to older relatives. There was a time when most people considered success as earning enough to pay the rent and put bread on the table. I'm not saying it should be like that now, but things are a damn sight better than they used to be.

Talkinb about salaries, here is some stats from year 2006 (got from Tilastokeskus web pages) from communal workers (kuntasektori):
Bus driver 2118€/month (säännöllisen työajan ansion mediaani/regular hours work median or something)
Librarian 2113 €/month,
and librarian is a university degree job.
Here is some links to the stat search engine:

In Finnish only, I'm afraid.

I am glad that it was not just me who noticed that the quality of the bus drivers in Helsinki has been, erm, sinking.
Take for example several weeks ago, I boarded number 18 to take my eight year old daughter a few stops down to her music lesson. She beeped in with her card and mine had, unfortunately, expired two days before (I had somehow forgotten to renew, as I mostly ride on trams and do not need to beep every time I get on board).
Well, my card gave the "beep! beep! beep!" and red lights flashing. The (Russian) driver had already started up and then he looked at me and the card machine and then I told him that I thought my card was OK, and shouldn't be expiring for a day or two (which was the truth, if inaccurate). He then checked the card (while barrelling down the street at rush hour) on his machine and told me that my card had expired, and then just slammed on the brakes, and stopped the bus in the middle of the street, not at a designated stop. He opened the door and pointed for me to leave the bus. I told him I had my child with me and he sneered "take her, then!"
So, we disembarked and he drove on his merry way. Now that I wrote this down here, I feel like I should have almost complained to the bus company... Even if I was in error, what he did was at least wrong and at worst, illegal not to mention dangerous for me and the kid.
Also the drivers of the 23 buses (which drive from the Railway station through Kallio and Pasila to Ruskeasuo) are mostly mental defects who drive fast and hate stops.

You should have made an official complaint. Nobody likes russians, especially the finnish people. If you had made a formal complaint, the authorities would whipped his f***king russian ass!!!!!
You could pay him 2.20 but apparently you didn't. You didn't have money with you or what? The (Russian) driver had already started up and then he looked at me and the card machine and then I told him that I thought my card was OK, and shouldn't be expiring for a day or two (which was the truth, if inaccurate).
