my salary and Kela

Post by Esther » Wed Nov 07, 2007 7:22 pm

Moi,

I am on A permit for two years (first one year and then renewed it just last week). I am a non EU member and my permit is based on my continues -not ending contract with a Finnish company.

My salary is not a fixed. It depends on how many work the company have. Sometime I am at home for a whole week without work and sometime I work continuously for over 5 months without a break.

Due to the ups and down of my salary, sometimes its quite not easy to pay the bills etc.

I have a Kela card and I am entitle to the benefits.

My problem is: I am afraid to apply for Kela benefits like housing allowances because I think I can not renew my permit for the third time in next year if I am getting some support from the government.

Has anybody gone through this or has any knowledge about it?. Can I receive Kela benefit while working and still be possible to renew my permit?

Thank you all for your contribution.

In your case, more than asking here, its best that you setup an appointment with them and explain your situatino..and ask them this directly. They are pretty helpful in these circumstances..
and when you setup an appointment, ask for an English speaking person if you are not able to handle the conversation in Finnish.

Are you working for a language school?

What kind of contract do you have? Do you belong to a union?

Sounds to me like you are being seriously exploited.... in many countries that kind of "intermittant" work would not be permitted. In France a CDII contract would guarantee you a number of hours pay/year, whether you get the work or not.

But in Finland it is. "Pätkätyö" is a word that didn´t even exist a few years ago, now it is a word that is everyday vocabulary.

Do as raamv says.

"The objective of the income requirement is that foreigners living in Finland are able to support themselves economically by their own means."

1. adult 900/month or 10800/year (net income)

And Aliens Act, 58:
(4) A fixed-term or permanent residence permit or a long-term resident’s EC residence permit may be cancelled if false information on the alien’s identity or other matters relevant to the decision was knowingly given when the permit was applied for, or if information that might have prevented the issue of the residence permit was concealed.

(5) A fixed-term residence permit may be cancelled if the grounds on which the permit was issued no longer exist.

You received a residence permit by employment - and you must support yourself. In case if you lost your work - or you cannot support youself - you can lost your residence permit (right now).

The easiest solution for Kela is not to give you a money - but inform UVI/police.

Usually they give you 1 month to find another job - or bye bye.

Her resident permit is based on employment..and not salary..
and Kela benefits are based on salary and eligibility..
As far as salary goes, she is getting something..but then she could still qualify for some concessios from KELA if she is eligible...
that is the question and not the resident permit..
If she doesnt have a job, then she needs to go back..or find a Finn to marry!!
