the worst receipe ever

Post by oompah18 » Fri Nov 09, 2007 10:53 pm

While browsing yet more websites for inspirational meals (I do hate cooking so much!) I came across this, under Casseroles:
It made my stomach churn just reading it...........

Coca~Cola Baked Beans

2 cans great northern beans - 16 oz.
1/2 can Coca~Cola
1/4 cup onion - diced
1/4 cup green bell pepper - diced
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 T. prepared mustard
1/4 cup ketchup
6 strips bacon

Saute 2 strips bacon with onion and green pepper until lightly browned. Drain off fat, then stir in all other ingredients except for the remaining bacon. Bring to a boil.

Pour into a greased casserole dish. Place remaining bacon strips on top.

Bake at 325º for 45 to 50 minutes.

Hmmm, guess I will stick to simple spag bol again

In my childhood Coke was recommended as an agent removing all rust.
And it worked!

Nigella Lawson has a famous Coca Cola Roast Ham recipe which I have never tried but have read reviews that say it really works. :ohno:

I've also seen such recipes but haven't tried them in practice (I don't particularly like the taste of cola, in drinks or otherwise) - but it's difficult to say how the said recipe would turn out, without trying it... sometimes the most extraordinary combinations produce nice results!

Did you roast the pork and smear it now and then with coke?

Or did you just drink coke like a pig? :D

Btw, another strange thing I haven't tried - marinating roast lamb in coffee. Sounds weird but who knows?

This is a common recipe for baked beans in the Southern United States (after all, Atlanta, Georgia is the birthplace of Coca Cola!).

I've been served this dish at church social events when I was very young. I liked it then. Now, probably not so much.

Check these out!

Using coke to marinate will make the meat very tender.
The combination with bacon is less obvious.

As rinso said, it tenderizes the meat. Not that peculiar, but I make that chinese "red pork" too, so I'm not that traditionally picky I need an extra helping of bland

A very good recipe is canned chicken.

You buy a roaster hen and clean it up and all that good stuff, and shove an open can of pop (or beer if you're so inclined) into the chicken's butt. After it cooks for as long as chicken needs to, the pop or beer flavor marinates the chicken inside out.

It's usually made on the grill but it's good inside the oven too.

Coke is excellent for this.
