Sending a Very Official job application with Mac

Post by Mark I. » Fri Nov 16, 2007 1:56 pm

I'm writing an e-mail application to a Finnish government job with my Mac, and I'm just trying to figure out how to do it proper: It's essential that my application fits to standards of govermental byreocracy, it's flawless and ready for immidiate print out (after which prints are carried to a Big Boss in Finnish government ;-))

So, I suppose I should make two documents; application letter and CV, and attach them to an e-mail. I don't know exactly what applications they use there, but I suppose Word will open those documents, and I suppose .rtf -form documents from my iMac TexTuri would do OK?

Another Mac problem: My mail seems to attach my picture to every e-mail that I send - I have tried to find out how to change settings so that my stupid face would not appear with my mail - wihout success.

Toimiiko .rtf -muodossa olevan dokumentin liittäminen meiliin TexTurista?

Ja miten saan semmosen sähköpostin missä tää mäkki ei työnnä pärstäni kuvaa väkisin meilin ylänurkkaan?

These are guesses, but this is what I would do:

Change the email format to plain text.

Attach your CV as a PDF.

Yeah, making letter and CV as PDF -document is a way to go.

But this iMac Mail has a flaw - still I don't find a way to send an e-mail without my stupid face picture

I mean, that option should be easy & normal, right? "Plain text" -option does not help. Searched for instructions - no help. I should get Windows again?

Does it or do you think it does?

Send it using a web based email, upload CV in different formats, Set your setting in the web email to "reply to: marki@mac.mail" field to your mac's email address ( SMTP or POP server).

Yap, it seems there's no picture on my mail on the receiver's and - so my send mail looks different than actual received mail (that sucks).

So, as mentioned before - I'll just make PDF and attach it to e-mail.

Are you using word to write it? and what email are you using? Mac mail or some other mail provider which you can log into form web rather than onboard program, OR perhaps you can email it to yourself then fwd it minus the picture attachment?

The Mac OSX 'users' feature has some annoying side effects.

Yes, frequently seeing your profile picture on emails and other documents and thinking that your bosses or potential employers think you are a flower or pair of flippers is one - but don't worry only you see it.

The other annoying thing is the auto creation of the user folders - which include a duplicate of the library for things like the application support folder. Some programs install application support in the top level library but others in the user's library. Generally messing with the 'user' folder set is a pain and even simple things when you are deleting users need programming.

Is it that mail uses the picture in the address book from any recipient/sender if mail finds the matching info there?

'I should get Windows again?'

Or pen, paper, envelope and stamp.
