STRIKE AVERTED: TEHY nurses to get 20-28 percent raise

Post by superiorinferior » Mon Nov 19, 2007 4:41 pm

Tehyläisten palkankorotukset neljän vuoden sopimuksessa ovat 22-28 prosenttia. Lisäksi he saavat 270 euron joulurahan. Korotukset koskevat vain tehyläisiä.

EDIT: http://www.yle.fi/news/left/id75379.html

The General Council of the Tehy, the Union of Health and Social Care Professionals, has unanimously approved a negotiated pay deal reached late Sunday.

The Commission for Local Authority Employers, or KT, has also given its unanimous approval to the contract, thereby averting industrial action in which about 12,000 nurses threatened to start a mass resignation campaign.

The four-year contract gives Tehy members pay increases of 22 to 28 per cent over the next four years. They will also get a Chrismas bonus of EUR 270.

The Finnish government is scheduled to comment on the new contract at 7:30 in the evening.

Good news for TEHY union members..but the ones who were not TEHY members and who supported the strike got shafted in this deal...
which means they ll be forced to join TEHY to get that raise( if that was negotiated or not, I dont know)..and which now becomes bigger...

I heard this morning on tv the director of SuPer (the other important union of nurses) saying their nurses will have the same rise in salary at least for the next two years (about 10%). But maybe he's just afraid that all nurses move to Tehy.

Actually Super is the union for practical nurses (lahihoitaja, lastenhoitaja, perushoitaja) whereas Tehy is for registered nurses (sairaaanhoitaja).

So Super nurses can't join Tehy. Hope they can get the rise too. Or maybe they already have a better contract.

They just don't belong to the same pay system. Practical nurses are lower on the pay scale than registered nurses. I do hope they get a rise as well as they surely need it for the job they do (RNs don't wash/change nappies on old people as much as practical nurses do)...

There seems to have been a bit of Miss-understanding about the actual true percentage rise..
Int Hesa...
Tehy calculates that its members will get pay hikes of 22 to 28 per cent over the coming four years, while KT says that pay costs will rise by 15.7 to 17.7 per cent during the contract period. (typo corrected by me).
TEHY make an assumption that they will also get the overall pay hikes of 4-6 per cent that will be implemented in the municipal sector in 2010-2011.
But...The municipal employers make no such assumptions for the last two years of the contract period,
