please give opinion for car models?

Post by euro_star » Tue Nov 20, 2007 3:06 pm

HI,

After looking information about car purchase i came to know that in finland Toyota and Honda brands have good reputation here in finland and price depreciation is also less when you sell the car for e.g. 3-to 4 years with avg. usage.

What you people say about Fiat, Renault, Peugeot, Citron- models such as Punto and panda, clio and Megane , 107 to 307 and c1 to c3 respectively.
I found one model Daewoo kalos model on nettiauto what about this?
please let me know if you can suggest any model.

I am looking for buy a car for city use 1.2 to 1.4 % door, hatchback.

I would like to know from Finnish point of view, because if i buy the used one from abouve mentioned models (2004 to 2006 and price 7000 to 10000 euros) i wan to sale after 3 to four year? I am expecting that i should get atleast 3000 euros return. My car use will be 12000 to 14000 km/year.

Hi, even I am looking for car to buy and havent yet decided on the model...Toyota,Honda,Ford and Nissan are on my priority list...They are pretty reliable and their resale value is good...Second on my priority are puegeot,Kia and Renault...But I have heard that there was some technical fault with 307 models(2003 or 2004,not sure)...There was some leakage problem...water used to seep in through the roof..
When buying a car, look for reliability, safety features, resale value and fuel consumption...
chech http://www.veho.fi They have reduced the price of old cars by 10% and I am sure it will come down by more by the begining of next year as more people will buy new cars and consequently there would be more used cars to choose from and negotiate...Hopefully the price of the used cars will drop further...Plus if you are paying the entire amount at one go you can always bargain to an extent of 10-15%...
i havent yet decided which model to go for as i will be doing a lot of research before zeroing on the final choice...

Personal experience counts for a lot, so that is a useful comment.

Of the cars in euro_star's list, I only know about the Fiats. I tried a Punto for a couple of days and didn't like it at all. I found it uncomfortable to drive. I have a 2005 Panda which I have driven for 56 000 km from new, and that has been reliable, economical and OK to drive. I can recommend that model as a practical choice. Check the resale value though, to make sure it is a good financial choice; I don't know how well Fiats hold their value in Finland.

Those may be the things that are important to you, but other people could be interested in other things. Each buyer should decide what is important to them, and make their choice accordingly.

I agree, some drivers will be perfectly content with a cheap and cheerful Fiat Punto, whereas others would want Honda's reputation for reliability and be prepared to pay a bit more for it. For others, nothing less than an SUV would do.

It gets very confusing listening to the vast amount of opinions out there! Generally speaking, most newer cars should be reasonably reliable, although generally speaking, you do 'get what you pay for'.

There are also plenty of reviews on the Internet, but for any make and model, you'll see plenty of horror stories. I think people tend to write reviews when they're really pleased with a car, or hate it. Naturally, for the bigger sellers like Toyota, Ford and VW, there will be more bad stories statistically speaking, simply because there are more of those vehicles on the road.

If you do want to venture down the road of looking at Internet reviews, this site gives driver reviews of cars in Finland (a one to five star system). Click on the different makes on the bottom right:
http://www.tuulilasi.fi/uudetautot/

Also, the J D Power survey in the UK is a pretty good survey of how owners feel about different makes and models after owning them for a while:

Similarly, a UK reliability report:
http://www.whatcar.co.uk/news-special-r ... ?NA=222866#

What Car also has a comprehensive set of new cars reviews, both by the magazine and drivers:
http://www.whatcar.co.uk/car-review.aspx

Good luck!

They were called Daewoo Kalos until 2004. Since 2005 the same car has been Chevrolet Kalos....

Questions you should ask:

1. How fast does the heater warm up in -20 C ?

2. When driving in freezing sleet, are the windscreen wipers purely cosmetic?

3. If I get a flat tyre, how many wheel nuts do I need to remove to replace the tyre - in -20 C ( our Toyota has 5 long nuts- after the 4th your back freezes in place)

4. When the footwells fill with snow, melt and then re-freeze etc, will it rot the carpet and make the car smell like old socks?

5. Is there a external thermometer so I know when overtaking on a blind corner may not be advisable?

7. How broad is the smile of the mechanic when you go in for a service check?

To that end, our Renault Twingo is fine, it doesn't cover all bases but the heater's a cracker!
