Part time employment and supplementary benefits

Post by Hazen » Tue Nov 20, 2007 3:49 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a question about working part time and claiming supplementary benefit. A friend of mine who's a single mother has taken a part time job. This suits her well as it means she can be there when her kids come home from school. However, KELA have now informed her that they will be sending her to interviews for full time jobs and that if she refuses to take any of the jobs offered, she'll have her benefits taken away. She has a contract with her current work place until the summer, but KELA are taking no notice of that. When she's gone to the KELA office to try and sort out the situation, there seems to be a different answer every time (for example, how many hours a week she'd have to work without being considered "unemployed"). Has anyone else been in a similiar situation?

Thanks for your help :)
