When I still lived in Canada there were a few times when i was alone at Christmas,.Once i volunteer and cooked in a soup kitchen for people who were less fortunate then me. I don't know if there is a place you can do something like that where your at, or even if you want to? But I think it will make you feel better, it worked for me. :D

Independence day here tends to be a bit dead, a couple of years ago we took Ryanair to Riga on the 5th and flew back on the evening of the 6th. Hardly cost anything and was better than sitting on our arses in Finland.

Don't the Russians celebrate Christmas later? Presumably the 25th Dec is a normal day there? Might be worth looking into heading to St Petersburg for a couple of days.

Make your on booze in advance (economic.) Go out to the streets (you will surely get some company if you share your booze.) Drink until you get a complete black out. (Not depressing, since you wont remember any of the bad things you've been doing.)

Ha ha! No thanks. I see enough sad bums here doing that every night of the week to really turn me off to that. I'm amazed I still drink as much as I do and haven't totally given it up! (Hint: I drink when I am happy and with friends, not to escape my life and problems, and no real blackouts that I can remember  , okay, maybe one as a teenager on foreign exchange among friends. But, I am from New Orleans, you learn how to drink with your family (wine) quite young, and how to enjoy and control yourself while drinking.)

Going to St. Petersburg might be a good idea. The city never sleeps, so I'm sure there'll be plenty to do. There are 3 travel companies I know that you could try. I have only good things to say about them. And I do recommend a travel company unless you've been to Russia before:

All are good for a younger crowd and not terribly expensive, plus St. Petersburg is dirt cheap when it comes to food, fun and transportation. But you do need a visa :(

So, I hope you all have a nice xmas!
