So can you get your goods sent from the US to the UK thereby avoiding the import duties ( I think that the limit is 175 quid before you start paying) and then have the stuff sent here to Finland (import limit from outside the EU 50Euro).
How else are we going to take advantage of the bog paper dollar?
Avoiding taxes
Hi, I think you'll find the limit is a lot lower in the UK and HMCR have been known to start collecting money once you go over £18!!...In my experience as well I had a clarinet which I owned sent back to me from a friend who "borrowed" it and moved countries - HMRC then demanded a large chunk of tax for it...I eventually convinced them it was mine and they refunded it....but this is most definately not a short cut.

Re: Avoiding taxes
You are confusing the duty free limit (what you can bring back when reentering the UK) with VAT ... levied on stuff imported into the UK (CDs, DVDs etc) The higher amount is only valid if you bring it back into the country with you.thedamage wrote:So can you get your goods sent from the US to the UK thereby avoiding the import duties ( I think that the limit is 175 quid before you start paying) and then have the stuff sent here to Finland (import limit from outside the EU 50Euro).

Otherwise everyone would order their Levis online from the State... innit?

My yeah, my folks did US shopping runs in the early 90's but my Mum got sick of the flying so they stopped. Best tip is if people want to bring lots of clothes back ... remove all the labels and screw them up so they look used.penelope wrote:Yes, most UK folk would just buy a cheap return on Virgin and hop over the pond to do their Christmas shopping.
It seems that many people read this sort of article

hop on a plane... without bothering to read the full article... the last section deals with duty free / import tax.
