Chipotle Salsa at Kamppi Super K

Post by Desundial » Fri Nov 23, 2007 10:48 pm

To any other salsa addicts, I have to give a shout out for the selection at the Super K in Kamppi as I usually don't shop in the center and would never have thunk it.

**Two kinds of tomatillo salsa (same kind imported from mexico as S-market)
**an excellent chipotle salsa from mexico
**an alright pico de gallo (when you're not going to make it fresh)
**pickled habaneros and another yummy pepper (forgot kind)
**refried black beans and refried pinto beans, plus just the beans if you prefer diy
**a few other canned styles of beans from mexico (i.e. ready made dishes)
**the wierd pepper goudas I posted about before - yep, and nearby the creapy bright green pepper gouda.

....Same old crap tortillas though...

Actually that particular Super K knocks it out all in their indian, thai, turkish, italian, spanish and even german selection of condiments, etc.. I usually hate Supre K but was just estatic.

Excellent! I did just receive a shipment (late birthday present of roasted chipotle salsa,) but I am going to go and support this import at Super K! Just in time for another Tex-Mex dinner!

Just got back from there, and ended up spending over €60 "specialty" foods.

Found Hidden Valley Ranch dressing, Jello, rootbear and creme soda too. Managed to refrain from buying candy thou... :D

Also find out that if you want to buy unmarinated chicken wings, you need to go to one of those kauppahalli's...

There goes my plan to make buffalo wings for tonight....

well they seem to keep the shelves stocked anyways.... btw there was sour cream dip too, which I never seen before and there was also some "original" tortillas too under the chipotle salsas... the packaging didn't look like it was by the usual suspects (Santa Maria, Eldorado, etc).

Looks like a lot of the (non-TexMex) items come from this company: http://www.hisandhers.fi/

and they seem to have distribution in some stores around the met area... http://www.hisandhers.fi/mista.html

Did they have the candy-coated Kisses? I'll have to look at the candy while I'm there.

they had some candy bars, but I tried to avoid them, so I did not take a closer look... But the US candy is located at the end shelves of the long aisles and not in the aisles themselves, so the items are not there where you'd expect them to be.

I went to K Jättijako in Tammisto today. It supposedly has the largest variety of items in the Metro area. They had the same items as K Kamppi, and possibly even more. Picked up also a Peri-peri marinade...

That's in Vantaa, where Bauhaus & Gigantti are.

Oh I forgot to mention... they had an unbelievable froze food section. Pick'n'mix for so many things. They had frozen tiger prawns so big I never seen in Finland before, 4-7" in length and lot of similar things too.

Dunno if Iso Omena has it, but this can also be found in Sello
across from the fish counter. ;)

hmm...you must find your way around tammisto better than I. I have never had good luck at that K location. Then again, maybe I am arriving right after you.

The difference with Tammisto is, that those "specialty" products are with the "normal" products... so it's easier to miss them, as they are not really on special display. Just go around the aisles... seek and you shall find, ask and you shall receive...
