World Cup Qualifying

Post by john_smullen » Sun Nov 25, 2007 4:55 pm

The draw for the South African world cup qualifying stages takes place today.
I wonder who England can fail against this time.

Frankly England are welcome to Kazakhstan. it's a bloody long way, and they are not that bad.

Finland could have got off a lot lighter than they did. It think they'll have trouble making even second place in that group, unless we see a huge exodus from the Russian and German teams after Euro 2008...

How far do they want to travel?! Strewth. Plenty of 'banana skins' (or is that an arrogant view?), but the same for all the others.

Who wants the England job now?
Beth? Hä? 什么?

England's group is a piece of phish. OK so Croatia again but our players earn LOADSAMONIE so we of course they'll do it but we have to fit into the OK, NOW '!"#¤% magazine' schedule

Agreed with oty, grp 2 is a nice one. Scotland also, you got Holland in that one but again not impossible.
Gutted for NI, and there was me hoping a few of the family might pay me a visit. Also Ireland, another miss out on a family visit.

Still not many sheep for the Welsh to get excited about here.

Ohh I was talking to my Swedish colleague the other day giving me all the ' Im so sad for England stuff' and we have qualified for the last ....major tournaments. Well you aint going to SA buddy will be my mail tomorrow morning.

A hell of a lot of this surely (hell, that word ought to be internationally BANNED) depends on the age-structure of these teams.

I'm assuming there will be "player losses" all over the place as players in their mid-thirties decide they can't hack it for another three years and their clubs are looking long and hard at renewing their contracts anyway, and might say "Yep, Fred, but got to cut out that international nonsense if you want to stay on at Fudpucker Road".

Quite why Simon is so convinced the Swedes have drawn the short straw I'm not sure, but maybe he knows they are in for a severe shake-up after Euro 2008. Otherwise, I'd say they could certainly expect to make a play-off place.

About 5,000 km is the answer, if you mean Boratistan. Astana is a terrifyingly long way on the map.
