Single is OK. But couples have separate taxes, so if only one parent works they get reamed by vero karhu. Finland is designed for both parents working...

It's not the taxes which can get to you.

It's how spouse income can affect variety of payments for other one.

Personal experience, I got a job and we moved with it. My better half registered into lists of one of those job agencies which give her short jobs here and there.

Of course since her income is very unreliable she wants money from Kela for days and weeks when she is not making money.

Catch? I'm working. Kela bastards demanded copy of my job contract since it affects her!
Is that a fault of the system? I always thought Kela money is intended as a "safety net" to prevent people going hungry. If the household unit has enough money coming in to prevent hunger, then is the tax payer expected to provide the household with extra cash? I'm sure that's how it works in all countries that have a benefits system?

Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

You have misunderstood. I do not mind situation, my pay should cover our expenses nicely. She does not like the feeling though. Relying on me to pay everything.

My point was that it is not the taxes that can put economy of a couple into trouble but reduction in income in situation where only one is employed.

I can understand that very much! (Most) Finnish girls are (try to be) quite independent financially. I find it rather refreshing when compared to the high maintenance girls in the UK.

Sorry I missed your point. And I quite agree! The system works best when both are working, but it was probably intentionally designed to be that way :)
