So you have no authority to dismiss my opinions as trashtalk
What I see is bad language and an excuse "he started..."
and a repetition of the same statements.
It just isn't constructive for the discussion.

And Oombongo, I totally agree. :D

I tend to shy away from the employment situation, I came here for a job and walked into a second, so I have never had any difficulty personally. I do know a number of qualified Finns who have taken time to find a suitable position, but that is by the by.

I'm not sure anyone is looking to gain respect, though some posters have openly admitted seeking fans on this forum. However, any respect posters will have for your opinions will be quickly blown away when you resort foul and abusive language. How would you view my opinions if I wrote that someone else is a behanchod? Not very highly.

Few on here are open Finland bashers, but it is helpful IMHO for someone to provide something about the downside. Finland is viewed by some from abroad as some kind of strange Nordic paradise. It is not, it's a bog standard Nordic country.

Nobody is stopping you doing that. Just cut out the abuse, there is no need, so stop trying to justify it.

Group hug.

Lets get on with it eh?

So then we don't need to read of "stupid uvi decisions" or cries for help when people get deported or find their relationships suffering becaus reality bit them and it hurts.

Well said, i agree with you 100% on that one.

I am truly and utterly blown away with the difficulty, nay, stubborness to welcome and accomodate foreigners into finnish society within this forum. I am very well eductaed and have worked successfully in my field for years, yet the phrase (usually from the ultra negative and anti-foreign poster HANK) "not without fluent and complete finnish language skills". What is the problem???? It amazes me that hard working people who are going to contribute to Finland are just dismissed and put on a negative road. This forum should actively encourage and develop links instead of driving wedges between "them" and "us". Think the rationale behind this forum is lost if all it does is discourage and generally take the piss out of people who are trying for what ever reason to live in Finland. Surely your sense of power would be best used to help and encourage us. I for one am getting kind of tired of the immature and unhelpful sarcastic comments thrown out. Get your act together guys.....

Not to be obtuse, but seriously, I kind of see this forum as a mini microcosm of Finland, but with a higher foreigners ratio. Think of Hank as the Vero/Skatt. Depending on how you view it, Skatt in Swedish is tax or treasure. You may not like it, but in the end, it can potentially be a harsh reality that you would rather be prepared for, unless you like nasty (sometimes nice) surprises at the end of the year. Hank is nowhere near some of the xenophobic "True Finn" types you could meet. He has traveled, lived abroad, and clearly sympathizes with many foreigners. There are uplifting and positive things on the forum, (useful information), but it isn't going to plop into your lap, much like a Finn wouldn't freely offer you information you didn't directly ask for, but that common sense says would be helpful. You have to work for it to make this forum work for you. Just like Finland, just like most obstacles in life.

You tell that to cybertiger, apparently his getting the EU-resident registration was a walk in the park, eh? Nothing worth getting stressed about? Nothing difficult about it. He just dropped his drawers at the police station and the light shone off his gilt behind. Must've been jailed for the 9 months for indecent exposure probably then, as nothing in Finland is difficult at all.

Absolutely... :) ..I value your opinions with high regard..I will try my best to prevent such incidents from happening again.

Life anywhere in this world aint perfect...It has its share of ups and downs and one tries to deal with it in the best possible manner instead of abandoning oneself to despair...Whining and bitching about the problems of life never helps the cause....Agree living here sucks at times but one should get his/her acts together and get on with it...

Lame replies ruin forums.

I have finally decided to join today, after using all the incredible info on this forum for around 2 years. And looking back now, i guess it actually helped me in a way to prepare myself and my wife to move to Finland with as little stress as possible.

Not all the information was all that good, or even in some cases, true. And I also think that Hank W doesnt deserve all the trashing he(my best guess) gets.

What i am trying to say is that you should use the given information in the best way you can, and dont whine about it not being THE ULTIMATE ANSWER to all your troubles.

Personally I have found a job on my 3rd day coming to finland(without any arrangements prior to my moving here) and started working on the 4th day. But as easy as it sounds, I know that I wouldnt be able to do as little as getting a place to stay for myself without all the help and advices that i ve got.
.....
.....

and i want to add two more things:

1. If you need help, find it yourself and dont make others break their back for you. There are god knows how many webpages containing information about Finland.
2. If you reply on forums(any forum) just for the sake of starting an argument, better do it in less important thread such as this: "Unofficial kiss my Ugly Butt thread"(there is link if u need it:http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/sho ... ?p=2579873)

cheers

If God had a name what would it be?
And would you call it to his face?
If you were faced with him
In all his glory
What would you ask if you had just one question?
