Hi all,
I've just searched through some old posts and found lots of good info on XC skiing but didn't find/see anything on getting lessons...
Does anyone know of a club/person etc who offers lessons either in English or Swedish in the Helsinki area who could help a couple of brits with own equipment master this XCS lark?
Thanks

Cross country skiing lessons in Helsinki
Yes I remember there were some English language lessons in Paloheinä and also in Töölö I think.... but not enough snow for that yet. In Espoo something similar was organised in Oitaa.
I guess there might be XCS instructors at Talma, Vihti, Himos etc.... but it is a bit early.
They are usually advertised in the local papers. If / when I see something I will post it on here.

It's pretty easy to pick up on your own...since %90 of it is knack I reckon.
Just remember two things, wax your skis propertly pref with Start Kick Tape on the kick zone (great for non-racers) and always walk on your toes going up hills...
..down hill with XC skis is pure nightmare since the skis are so thin that you need to keep lifting off and correcting...not like downhills skis which are like tea-trays and you can slide them left and right..
..as for kicking on the flat, a couple of days and you begin to figure that one out on your own..
..get back to me if you need help after it snows..I'm no expert but better than nouwt!

Re: Cross country skiing lessons in Helsinki
Hi,
Just as a follow up to this for anyone who is interested I found out about this
http://www.ulos.fi/hilavitkutin/hilavitkutin.cgi?E0703
I also went out to Paloheina and had a go which was a lot of fun and as much a question of knack as Cow Heada suggested.
I think I will go along to the lessons/course to help iron out any other bits, get some more info on kit/wax etc etc.
While I was out there I wandered into a cafe and they had lots of maps about where to ski in the Helsinki area if anyone is
interested...
Have fun while the snow lasts...
