Other types of onions

As far as Luokka 1 and Luokka 2.
The #1's seem to be more uniform in size and to have a good healthy peel, no moldy bits or damage.
Luokka 2 you get in those small mesh bags, the onions inside are usually tiny, a third of them are rotten to the center and the peel is usually mushy so you end up throwing away a lot.
Also, has anyone else noticed the unbelievably strong onions that seemed to flood the market this past autumn? I usually don't even blink when I am chopping onions (we use a lot), but this Fall it was like tear gas when I chopped into some batches.
I wonder if it had anything to do with a certain crop or certain region from whence they came?

I agree, I had a batch a few weeks ago that I had to take a break from. Half way through chopping them up i couldn't see and was crying like a baby. There were the worst onions I ever chopped up. As soon as you cry, stick the onion under a running tap for a second, then start chopping again.
Yup, here too have noticed some super onions this autumn! Some seemed to ooze white sap, quite foul.
As for ruokakerma, well that's eay, it's to diffrentiate it from naamakerma

Someone once told me that you won't cry if you chop onions under water, but I could never hold my breath long enough...

I know what you mean. Then you make the mistake of wiping your eyes with your hand, which only makes it ten times worse. I'll try Karhunkoski's suggestion next time and see if it works.
