im now registred as unemployment but i have to wait 7 months to get some money or 2 if i have a high education diploma translated in finnish. i think its fair
But i went for the integration program and it started on the 2 of decmber but ifor the money its the same time to wait, same conditions except if i start some finnish lessons which start on the 3rd of march.

So again if i dont find a job, nothing before the 3rd of march

I asked for some practicing stuff but the answer was that my finnish is not good enough

SO WHATS THE POINT OF THE INTEGRATION PROGRAM??

Did you ask why it takes at least two months until you get the money?
Did you tell them that you work right now -- if you quit a job, they usually make you wait until you get anything.

Im not legally working now. cash hand.
And i should start a legal job in january. But once i got a job i guess i will receive nothing from the integration program.

why?usually it takes less? She said because i didnt work before in Finland but THAT is for unemployment money.
Then i ask when can i receice something (not that im lazy and want some free money but i have a baby and a rent to pay). she answered when i will start my finnish lessons. BUT i tought that doing finnish courses will bring some extra money

So they told you that you get money as soon as you're on the integration programme, and they also said that the course has already started -- can't you join in now (try to catch up as best as possible)?

As far as I know, you get a few euros more when you're on the programme than what you would get when you're unemployed, and money you get during the integration programme is supposed to be not-means-tested. But in any case it's not a huge amount of money you'll get.

I assume the job you have for january is paying you more than the 500 or so you would get on the course? There is some possibility to do both the course and work, they then pay you less. There has been some discussion about this in a different thread quite recently, maybe the people discussing in that other thread know more about this:

she said my integration program started the 2nd of december, date of my approved permanent residency by the maistraati.

but to get some money i have to wait march when the nexy finnish lessons start.

so i dont get why is 8 euros for the lessons is extra money. extra of what. i tought that the 24.9 and the 4.5 (baby) were given when the integration program started

ill go back with my step dad on monday who told me that he will sort it off

ok, so now i think I get it. You're now officially registered with them (as of 2nd of december), but their next integration programme course only starts in march. So until then you are "normally" unemployed (for which a "quarantine" period applies - just as for Finns who have quit their job on their own initiaitive and register as unemployed). If you bring them your translated diploma, the waiting time will be two months (until the beginning of February, let's say), and then you'll get unemployment money (which is means tested, ie should your girlfriend earn too much, it's possible you won't get any, but since she's unemployed or on maternity, this won't apply to your case). Once your integration course starts in March, you'll get the extra money (i.e. on top of the unemployment money you have been receiving since February and the money won't be means-tested anymore).

At least that's how I understand the situation.

- How many hours is your job in january, would it be possible for you timewise to do both the course and the job? I think it is possible to do both, but as I said there are others who know better about this.

- If the job is full-time, you could just look for Finnish lessons elsewhere, less intensive ones in an adult evening college.

In any case it seems that the earliest you'll get money from them is after the two months, provided you bring them your diploma. But if you start a full-time job in January, they won't pay you anything -- but then the job will be better anyway?

I was told at the Employment office that the 2 month quarantine time is from the date that you sit down with them and set up your integration plan not from the date that you register as unemployed. This for me was several weeks after I registered as unemployed.
In regards to having the diploma translated. Does anyone know how to do this. My University from the states is sending me a copy of my transcripts which just lists all of the courses taken, the grades, and the date of graduation. A diploma they told me is a ceremonial document that a school does not keep copies of. Anyone see this as a problem??

Official-looking documents signed by "someone" seem to cut ice here in Finland. If you have some of those you should be ok.

Do you have to give them a translation? Some official departments accept English versions of documents. If you nevertheless need a translation, you could try the translation centre of the Helsinki-area in Vantaa (the local governments' translation centres are considerably cheaper than private ones):
