What are some must-see things to do when you've only got one day to spend in Turku?

i am actually going to Turku for the day on December 27th. I've never been before. I've looked at a Turku book for some ideas, but just curious about others ideas/suggestions of where to go/what to do. Some things that shouldn't be missed. :)

I think the first McDonald's restaurant that opened in Finland is in Turku. I've
only been there as a tourist once and we just saw the church. There is an
excellent 3D map right in front of the church. I think we went in April, so it
was already warming up.

Actually it was opened in Tampere 1985, a few months after the Finland's first Burger King was closed on the same location.

The main cathedral is a good view, turun tuomiokirkko, a must see in Turku.
The Ars Nova museum on Itäinenrantakatu quite close to the cathedral is a nice museum/archeological site.
The maritime museum where you can arrange tours of Suomenjuotsen.
Of course the river walk which is nice if its snowy.
The museums along the river...

See if Paninni is open for a good cheaper meal, its located quite near the cathedral in the same complex as the hotel Julia. Also along the river for great pizza, not the finnish version is Sergios.

Sibelius museum...
Look online at Turku touring. Lots of stuff to do.

Speaking in terms of Modern Architecture:

There's Aalto's Turun Sanomat office and also a rather nice new library building.

There is also an old wooden neighbourhood museum which is interesting too (not sure what it is officially called, but it's just over the hill near the windmill :) )

Have thought of taking it - any comments?
Think again ;)

Joudumme ilmoittamaan Teille, että Kotkan ja Sillamäen välistä laivalinjaa operoiva Narva Line Oü on päättänyt lopettaa laivaliikenteen nykyisessä muodossaan. Emme valitettavasti onnistuneet luomaan laivalinjalle sellaista taloudellista pohjaa, jonka turvin pystyisimme jatkamaan operointia.

Viimeinen vuoro Vironialla ajetaan 19.10.2007 Kotkasta Sillamäelle. Sen jälkeen alus jää Sillamäen satamaan.
Cheers, Hank W.

Yes, the käsityöläismuseo is worth a visit, 200 year old original wooden craftsmen's houses in their original location. They show the old techniques and now have some seasonal things going on..
Info about that museum and other provincial museums:

I quite like the Wäinö Aaltonen Museum, also on the river bank:

There are some nice bars and cafes in the city too, for daytime coffee and cake I'd recommend "Mansikkapaikka", it's a tiny place run by an elderly lady and her self-made cakes and pies are just fantastic. It's on Piispankatu 11, close to the (very beautiful) cathedral (open ma-fri 11-18 ). Cafe Art on the river bank has also nice cakes, and the cafe of the Aboa Vetus museum is very good indeed too.

A travel guide will probably give you details of pubs such as Koulu, The old Bank, Apteekki, all have a nice selection of beers. And then there's nice bars like Alvar and Kuka.

Thanks for formalising my very vague suggestion :)

Watch out if it's icy. There is quite a steep slope up to the museum. Upon leaving last Winter, I coasted down the hill on my bottom. I finally came to a halt right by the car door. It actually looked quite choreographed :)

thanks again for the continued suggestions! they're great. There seems to be so much to do that I think we've decided to stay for 2 days.
Kiitos!
