1. An International Master's Degree Programme In Cultural Diversity

The programme seeks to promote an appreciation and respect for diversity and pluralism in society, and in this way, to support the development of human rights, democratisation and peaceful socio-cultural change in the world. Special focus is given to questions that deal with encounters between western cultures and other cultures and religions, e.g. Islam.
Special prerequisites: An applicable Bachelor's degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Theology, Educational Sciences, or in a related field. Part of the study programme is also open to exchange students who have completed at least two years of academic studies. A good command of English. 2.Master’s Degree Programme In International Human Rights Law

The Master’s Degree Programme in International Human Rights Law is offered by the Institute for Human Rights and the Chairs in Constitutional and International Law and in Public Law at the Åbo Akademi University. The programme is designed to equip its graduates for demanding human rights law assignments in international organizations, non-governmental organizations and in public administration, and for advanced human rights law research.
The program is a two-year full-time program (120 ECTS) resulting in a Master of Social Sciences (M. Soc. Sc.) degree. The program consists of the following modules:
(a) Compulsory human rights law courses (85 ECTS):
- Course on the International Protection of Human Rights (10 ECTS)
- Course on the European Convention on Human Rights (10 ECTS)
- Two so-called specialization seminar courses or alternate courses in human rights (2 x 10 ECTS)
- Research seminar (10 ECTS) + master’s thesis (35 ECTS)
(b) Compulsory language studies (0-20 ECTS):
- The number and type of compulsory language courses depends on the mother tongue and previous studies of the student.
(c) Other studies (15-35 ETCS)
- In order to graduate the students must have completed 120 ECTS, which means that students must pass optional courses in order to achieve this number of credits. Accepted optional courses include additional courses in human rights law and courses in, for example, public international law, public law, women’s studies and international organizations. It is also possible to get credits for a relevant internship of at least 3 months.

The programme is open to those holding a bachelor's degree in law or another bachelor's degree with at least 45 ECTS in law or other relevant subjects. The applicants should be familiar with the basics of public international law and/or constitutional law. All applicants must prove their proficiency in English.
