Lidl has turkeys!
Lidl has turkeys!
I've been waiting patiently and it finally paid off. Lidl has 3400 gram turkeys for 14.99.
...and here's how NOT to do it...

hand-pick or hand-plock?Cory wrote:Tried a Lidl turkey a couple years ago. This year we placed an order for a 6 kg farm fresh bird from a turkey farm. Pick up is 23.12. When I called to place the order the farmer wanted to know if I wanted to come and hand-pick the one we wanted!I politely told him that we'd trust his judgement.

Lidl turkeys are manufactured at the Heissburg plant in Germany. Vorschprung Durch Technik...penelope wrote:Explicit in karen's post was the fact that she had tried and tested Lidl turkeys and found them to be OK.

Good point though.
In the UK farmers' markets are A Big Thing these days. The farmers set up a stall and sell their produce direct often charging way more than the supermarkets. But people think that because there is a "FARMER GILES HOMEGROWN PRODUCE" sign above the table they are getting something "better" than from Tesco. But chances are, Tesco is sourcing some of its groceries from Farmer Giles anyway. I guess it is nice to put some cash in the pockets of local farmers rather than in the coffers of the multinational retailers

I agree. Also it cuts down on the environmental impact of distribution, whereby produce can potentially be transported over a 1000km by the time it travels from Farmer Giles to a packing facility, then a distribution depot and then back to the Tesco only 10km from Giles' farm.....penelope wrote: I guess it is nice to put some cash in the pockets of local farmers rather than in the coffers of the multinational retailers
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
Don't worry.... you have plenty of time. It isn't Christmas for another 8 days!karen wrote:I'm roasting my bird now. Not that I was going to trust the pop-up timer, but
I want to strongly advise against it. The turkey has only been in the oven for
an hour and it has already popped. It smells awesome, but it's definitely not
fully cooked.
