Anyone sleep on a futon?
Anyone sleep on a futon?
We've got a pretty old mattress (handed down from the in-laws) and are considering buying a futon. I'm most interested in them because they are made of natural fabrics and haven't got any nasty chemicals or fire-retardant on them.
But are they comfortable and will our backs be happy? What about futons for kids? We need to buy our little (toddler) man a new mattress too.
Your experiences please...
Thanks!

Really depends on the kind of Futon you are talking about!!
Some of them do...some dont..
This includes beds too!!
If you are talking about IKEA Futons...then mebbe they looked too low!!
I am also in the lookout for a Queen size one (70 or 80 by 200cm) as my old Futon from the US is wearing out slowly..
If you find anything good..please do post..
As for sleeping in one, No difference between a bed and a futon as long as you use a Good and thick mattress..and that depends on whether you want a soft or a hard support..
The main difference is in the height of the bed and the Folding advantage of a Futon!!
No point i a Futon for Kids below teenage!!
We use a Finlayson mattress and cover for our kids with an extendable bed.
We plan to buy 2 new kids extendable beds from Ikea after this year so no Futon for the kids!!

that's where I got my 8-ply 160x200cm futon matress.
I've been sleeping on a futon since 2000 and couldn't think of sleeping on anything else...

Futons take a little while to get use to, but they're better for your back

I have a futon mattress on a normal bed, a thin foam one underneath because of the narrow slats, my 6 year old usually climbs in bed with me and she has no complaints, apart from my snoring.

No, since there's folding procedure that needs to be done in order to keep its shape... and anyways... Futon's already flat, so there's not that much to flatten out.antarctica_moon wrote:but don't you need to replace them frequently? without springs, how do they maintain their shape? foam has memory, and will eventually flatten out.

I don't know about this, but I think that shop also has smaller (half-size) futon mattresses etc. (that could be used for this purpose)jen wrote:I have heard of people using futons as an alternative to a cot for babies. The firm mattress and low level makes it ideal (and no cage-like bars).

Well those are not futons anymore... but check out http://www.inno.dk, they have the combo mattresses and are sold in Finland by http://www.vepsalainen.fiSpectra wrote:We tried out the very basic futon (no springs, just natural materials) and it felt ok. Want to try out the futons with springs and/or a rubber layer....Let's see how those feel...

There is another futon shop in Hki (Futon Innovation something something, too lazy to google it now) which sells these futons with the springs and rubber layers, etc. I don't really care what the name of the bed it, as long as it's made from natural fibers and hasn't got those nasties I want to avoid.
