They serve what you ask in bar. If it's used in drinks, you can most likely get it. Or even if it isn't. My favourites include hot chokolate and coffee since I do not use alcohol.mikakimilakin wrote:Gonna visit Finland two weeks later, mainly stay in Jyvaskyla, does any one know some interesting places? seems it is such a small city and nothing special to see. so if there any nice restaurants or bars?

And plenty of bars. It's student city, just go wander in center and you are bound to find lots of places.
As for food, if you do not mind pizzas there is this far best pizza place I have found in Jyväskylä. Pizzeria Maria. Cheap, good and BIG pizzas. Stonethrow from church.

Taxis shouldn't be a problem. You can find them at all hours at Matkakeskus, again very close to city center. Big round thingy next to railroad where all transportation have been centered.
As for bars for foreigners... Sorry, it's been a while since I lived in JKL and my knowledge on foreigners is iffy at best.
Just try your luck. It's not THAT big place.

Do you want to meet others foreigners?mikakimilakin wrote: and is there any bar that many foreigners like to visit?
I guess I've seen most foreigners in "Hemingway's".
Lots of Pizza places, but you should try "Figaro" in Asemakatu if you want some decent food (I noticed you asked for "nice restaurants")
You can also get a meal at the top of the water tower, some good views.

You're not alone... In fact, everybody is allergic to beer. It gives troubled vision, lack of lucidity, clumsiness, and the worst part of the allergic reaction happens the next day, it's called hang-over.mikakimilakin wrote:oh, BTW, i am not a beer lover, actually i am allergic to it.
I'll get my fur coat.

Parnell´s, Gummeruksenkatu 7, might also be good place, if you fancy Irish. But you don't drink Guinness or any other beer, do you?

Indeed! And lots that aren't seen in Alko, which is a bonus! Always nice to buy a wine in a restaurant and not see the same bottle for sale in Alko, at a fifth of the cost!sinikettu wrote: this place has fine list.

True - it's a small place. However it's a nice place even if it doesn't offer anything special (like, for example, a plastic 1:1 copy of the great pyramid of Giza)mikakimilakin wrote:seems it is such a small city and nothing special to see.

Pöllöwaari is a nice restaurant, and Figaro too. Don't know it it's still there but a third - slightly less posh but 'nice' nevertheless- would be Kissanviikset.
Ah yes, it's still there it seem: http://www.kissanviikset.fi/
Bars... apart from those already mentioned, Old Brick's Inn is probably one of the most popular pubs. NB not compulsory to drink beer there

Re: any interesting restaurants and bars in and Jyvaskyla
So Pölläwaari is the restaurant in the Yöpuu Hotel...sammy wrote:
Pöllöwaari is a nice restaurant, :
Odd name for a restaurant.."Grand Dad Owl"...
Name of hotel "Night Tree"...
Probably a bit pricey for students.
Another place to visit is the hotel up near the Ski Jumping hill ..place they start the World Championship Rally from...
Last time I was there they had a Rally Car Simulator one could play with.
Lots of Rally stuff as decoration in the bar.
There was also a nice Savu Sauna near a lake, for use of hotel guests.
Sorry cannot remember name of hotel.

Could the savusauna thingy be Savutuvan apaja - http://www.savutuvanapaja.fi/... or is there another one in Laajavuori near the hotel (Rantasipi Laajavuori)?sinikettu wrote:So Pölläwaari is the restaurant in the Yöpuu Hotel...sammy wrote:

Anyway, this is the owl connection: the name "yöpuu" refers to a tree that the birds go roosting for the night. In fact in Finnish we sometimes say - "menen yöpuulle", meaning "I'm going to sleep" (literally, I'm going to my night roosting tree) ... there used to be another restaurant at the Pöllöwaari/Yöpuu hotel, called "Ranskalaiset korot" (French payment interests

Re: any interesting restaurants and bars in and Jyvaskyla
The Savu Sauna was within walking distance of the hotel.sammy wrote: Could the savusauna thingy be Savutuvan apaja - http://www.savutuvanapaja.fi/... or is there another one in Laajavuori near the hotel (Rantasipi Laajavuori)?
...
Less than a kilometer...
Down a path to the lake which is at the bottom of the Ski Jump....the sauna is the other side of the lake from the ski jump...or at least it was..Finns have a reputation for burning down savu saunas

Okay, then it's definitely in Laajavuori, it's probably the Vuorilampi ('mountain pond') sauna then! Savutuvan apaja is another place, on de other side of town, a bit further away from the centre.sinikettu wrote: The Savu Sauna was within walking distance of the hotel.

What a pity there isn't probably any ice (at least not thick enough) on the Lake Jyväsjärvi now (?) - there's usually a great big skating thingy out there.
