Post by Eledi » Wed Dec 26, 2007 12:33 pm

Hello, long time......i've been missing this forum,,Merry xmas(belated) and Happy new year 2 u all,,,
me and my kids are enjoying the cool christmas here in the UK...bit chilly but feels hot to me as i am so used to Finland!!!
just wanted to wish you happy holidays, i'll be back in January to continue with the attempt to stabilise my miserable life in Finland... to be honest i do not want to come back,,but for my finnish kid..I JUST HAVE TO...no left with much choice....
any changes in the "employment policy?? i mean for foreigners??(i've been away for almost a month)incase of any vacancies which require an english speaker, mmh what can i say "forget me not", I've got a bachelors in International Business and this december i got a postgraduate certificate in Development studies..quite a combination huuh.....i am also an MBA student(started with Vaasa Uni but from January i'll be at Helsinki Uni) thus i am ready to work in Helsinki, Espoo or Vantaa.I speak English,French and Finnish(semi-fluent). Lastly, i've got zero experience in work,,apart from the workplacement(if you count it as work experience)

Hello Eledi,
You are very very Funny, I have to commend you for that, commedy is not a lucrative business in finland else you would have been a successfull director. is it true that there are no jobs for foreigners in Finland? I think you should put in more effort, try the Labour Office in your locality(vaasa, helsinki) and inquire for open vacancies looking for non-fluent finnish speakers when they give you the contact of the companies then you contact them in person. Dont look at yourself as a foreigner, look at yourself as someone who is not yet fluent in Finnish, dont be surprise that it is the truth in Finland. always contact the labour office for more copanies. it will help because it worked for me and to other foreigners i recommend it to, 'any income earning job can be ideal for a start' I believe it is your time. Merry christmass to you and your Finnish kids.

Which is the eternal student catch-22. Really, with your repertoire this is the only thing that is hindering. As they always want someone with experience (which you don't get unless you have a job first...)
Cheers, Hank W.
