Just moved to Helsinki - Where can I make new friends??

Post by Hazel » Thu Dec 27, 2007 7:46 pm

Hey everyone,
I've just moved to Finland from England and have no idea where to start with trying to meet new people.

Are there any societies that hold social events where i can meet other people in a similar situation as me? I've had a look on the Finn-Brit society but it doesn't seem to be what i'm looking for.

Would appreciate any suggestions coz i want more friends!!....

:?

ahh that sounds cool, i'm from Manchester but have lived in London, Rugby and now Helsinki. Do you have a job here? how old are you? (if you mind me asking your age you could just give a rough estimate, or tell me to mind my beeswax) Where abouts in Helsinki do you live?

So what brought you to Finland and how long have you been here?
I'm 23 and don't mind you asking! you!? I live in near Herttoniemi and work in Kamppi. I was really lucky and managed to get a job with a company that i used to work for in Southampton....its a shipping company. It's an international company so they have no worries with me only speaking english but of course i'm gonna start learning, would be rude not to!

My girlfriend brought me here. i'm 22 (23 in march) and i live in Malmi. It's lucky that you got a job straight away! some people on this board might be a little jealous! i came here 15 months ago and also got a job straight away but now i am studying so i can get out of my job (McDonalds isn't the greatest of places but it pays the bills until i get a new job)

Hey,

nice to find another Brit! Did you just move here for work? or a boyfriend/girlfriend too?

I dunno if the Helsinki Uni is any good but i'm starting a finnish course there this month. This seasons classes start soon (mine starts on the Wed 23rd) so you should join soon if you are going to.

Anyway meeting up sounds good although i'm back in London this coming weekend so not available then. Maybe an evening during this week/next week?

Hope you're liking helsinki so far :D

Ah its becoming Little Britain  yer but no but yer

I think the finding a job is dependant on your attitude to wanting to work!! You should visit Molly Malones of course always foreign types in there and all staff speak something close to English, except maybe the boy form Burnley, then theres the Welsh boy, The Scottish guy is away for a month so you should be safe except the Russian will still be there, as for the Irish one
