funny, my wife and I have been talking about that for some time now. We notice that in the markets, most fruit juices cost about the same, if not, more than the name-brand colas.
Sorta OT, but I've been sticking to ice cold drinking water for quite some time now.

I miss the grocery prices in the US. I'm not used to seeing a 6-pack of coke for 5-euros. 5-Euros in the US can easily get you a 24 pack.

Yes, but when you don't go for the name brand - you get the same s* in a different package for a fraction less.
As for stuff costing - no s* sherlock... or should it be "Welcome to Finland"
I don't know but in my local all the "junk foods" cost exorbitantly more than stuff you need to make yourself from scratch. Then again LIDL "wonderbread" is cheaper than buying a loaf of rye toast... problem is I won't go through a loaf of bread in the time it takes for it to achieve intelligence and start running about the house... which reminds me I need to take the remnants of the fish out - its starting to recite Shakespeare...
Meanwhile, Nigell Lawson has been getting called a porker as she's been making not so very calorie-counting oriented tv cooking, she said:“I don’t know. But I do think that women who spend all their lives on a diet probably have a miserable sex life." And in th breaking news in Switzerland the doctors are saying that herbalife products have caused liver damage to several patients.
So healthy or not healthy, something is going to bite your ass...

i can definitely tell the differences between a 99cent cola and a Coke or Pepsi. So it's not quite the same !"#¤% as you say. I do realize that some of the Finnish "Brand" name products are re-labeled into Rainbow, Pirkka, and the likes. I'm okay with some of those.
And thanks!

Yes but you need to remember Coke and Pepsi are "imported luxury products" you buy to feel like you are a cosmopolitan, and flash out for Tropicana. See that is not "cheap domestic brand" here. A poor Finn like me chooses between Pirkka (that probably is made in Germany) and Olvi and takes a carton of Brazil. And then we wonder why foreigners whine over the price of imported luxury products - of course they cost double as you pay royalties for the mental image of being a rich and famous hollywood star

We buy Pepsi on sale or we drink the Lemon Light from Lidl. Dh (Finnish)
pays the big bucks for Tropicana juices.

Sometimes the Tropicana and/or the Brämhults not from concentrate juices really hit the spot, they cost less per litre than domestic beer, so WTF. You can remove the paint from your car (if you can afford one) with Brazil and the other shyte orange juices in cartons here.
As for soda pop, you really shouldn't be drinking that at all, it is all sugar or artificial sweetener.

Another of the left-tilted articles so common in the U.S. media today, where a balanced view is replaced with special interest groups political agendas.
Imagine if the average low income people would skip the sweets and the beverages. Where I live you can buy a bag of apples or a bunch of bananas for about the same price as 2 liters of coke. And numbers of how much is spend on alcohol and tobacco are not included here, but would be interesting to see, since it is common knowldge that smoking is higest among low-income groups.
"ERS research on food spending patterns shows that of the $462 spent on food each month by the average low-income, four-person household, $334 was spent on food from the grocery store. Of this, $11 was spent on sugars and sweets and $30 was spent on nonalcoholic beverages."
