So futons are made from natural fibers, but are there any other kinds of "natural"/"eco"/"organic" mattresses available for sale in Finland?
Haven't found any sign yet from the bit of web surfing I've done. But there are tons of companies in the states who advertise 'better bedding."
What about organic mattresses?

A few years ago we burned the last pre-war straw mattresses in the midsummer bonfire. It caused a local eco catastrophe. Neighbours still remember it.

Yes, Hästens is the only "organic" manufatcturer I know of. All hand made, all natural materials like horse hair. But they are so EXPENSIVE.

Oh! I'm so happy you told me about Hästens! I never knew that they are making 'natural' beds. I would have never guessed. Thanks for pointing that out to me

I guess building such natural mattresses is not a new idea in the Nordic countries, since the company has been around since the 1800s. I always thought it was a brand new 'green' thing.
Much thanks again

ok, that's the first time that's happened with any of my posts. What did I write wrong?!
hmm...i'll edit that soon i guess.
but so, then, btw, do any of you own a hästens bed? do you recommend one? i don't doubt their quality, since the Swedish royal family apparently only sleeps on Hästens beds!

Yes, very. Stockmann stock them I think and probably Vepsäläinen. And they seem to advertise in Helsingin Sanomat regularly.
You might be able to pick up something in the sales but it still won't be cheap.

You can buy a horse probably cheaper than a Hästens horsehair mattrass
Come to think of it I got a few straw mattrassess as organic rat homes at the cottage attic as insulation... you want?
Cheers, Hank W.
