How to hire people in Finland?

Here is my situation, in some lines.

I have a so-called "high tech" Toiminimi, dealing is IT-Software development. Now I have to do all work myself, but since work is getting huge, I would like to hire some people (in fact, I have lot of open positions, including one secretary *lol*). At some point I will convert to Oy company, but for time being its what it is.

I would like to hire some people on fixed term contract (like 3-4 weeks), i.e. mutual agreement about salary, time & work description. What would be legality of such agreement & do I end up paying more (like pensions, social benefits etc.) ?

Often I am told, its quite complicated to hire people in Finland and can also be difficult to get rid off, at later stage! My lawyer said just not to hire anyone.

I also work in software development, although I have an Oy, not a toiminimi. I basically agree with your lawyer if you are only talking about short-term project-based work.
I try to build up a network of similar professionals to co-operate on projects. Sometimes I work alone, sometimes I want help from other people, and at other times I work on other developer's projects. My prefered approach (as hirer or hiree) is for the person doing the work to provide a quotation and the other person orders that work from them. The person doing the work then charges on a company-to-company basis - i.e. just issue an invoice as for any other work. Thus the worker is not an employee, but a supplier, and you are just buying a service. Is there any reason why that wouldn't work in your case? Of course it restricts you to working with developers who have their own Oy or toiminimi, but that shouldn't be a major problem - not many others would be interested in a short contract.

Exactly. If you "hire somebody"...is like "buying a car" and having to pay the insurance and registration etc. and finding a parking place and all that... instead of "buying the service" as in "taking the taxi".

Now there is of course a "carpool" system for enterpreneurs, called "osuuskunta"... now that might work in some cases also.
