Gourmet coffee shop

Anyone know any proper coffee shops in Helsinki, or mail-order?

I'm trying to find some course ground decaf coffee or whole decaf beans, but decaf almost doesn't exist here! Sometimes if you're lucky you can see some Nescafe Instant or Illy espresso ground...

Lidl sells ground 100% Arabica decaf coffee (in a red packet).

If you want to pay extra then Stockmann in HEL has a good selection of beans (they grind will u wait) or try Robert's (some sell loose coffee, not sure about decaf - but they do sell cups of decaf so....).
The Citymarket in Iso Omena sells loose coffee beans too, (in between the milk and the beer, far corner of the store) but I don't know of they have decaf.

Awesome! Thanks for those suggestions, I'll try Lidl tonight! I can't wait to try Lidl coffee, wonder what Lidl coffee tastes like, probably cut with soil or something

I buy LIDL instant. Pretty decent for the price, gotten so used to it that coffee at work tastes "funny".

The Lidl decaf coffee grounds are 100% Arabica and they are OK. I have often served them up at home to unsuspecting Finns and nobody has choked up yet. And they are MUCH cheaper than the Illy stuff. I haven't tried to make espresso with it though, but if you are looking for coarse grounds then I guess you are not looking for strong coffee anyway.

Excellent! That's just the kind of thing I was after. There is a similar place in London I used to use when I lived there, I'll place an order soon I think!

Might have to drink the Fair Trade coffee with some slave sugar though

You could try this thread i was recommended Cafe central, i went and bought some espresso beans (some Italian label which i've thrown away now) it has loads of machines and a selection of beans, the beans i bought are ok but have a touch of mocha so i'll try a different bean next time before i make my judgement on the selection/shop.

Ah yes, I had forgotten all about that place. They even have an organic decaf

(very expensive, but I've read some bad stuff about the chemicals used to decaffeinate coffee)

They have a great selection.

My SO used to travel to S.America and always brought me back a couple of bags (the duty free limit is quite small). I put what I couldn't use in the freezer, it keeps better that way.

Next time I go to Lohja I might drop in and taste some. I hope they sell decent chocolate too.... can't beat a cup of really good coffee with a piece of dark and crispy chocolate - drool.

Mission accomplished - tastes pretty good too! Certainly a suitable everyday coffee, cheap price and an inexhaustible supply - should probably get an expensive container to pour it into though, so people don't think I'm a total pikey!

It was worth buying just for the stupid English translated description:
"This mild, decaffeinated coffee is low in stimulants, which may be good for your heart and nerves."

they sell it it S and K markets too. Its called kofeniiton (sp) and if you look carefully, you can find it next to regular coffee. But they are generally in small packets n are double or 3 times price of normal coffee!!.
