Please refrain from crossposting the same topic on many forums..
sandrou wrote:My plan is as realistic as it can be.It's my wish to come back and specialise in Helsinki in February and I already have all my papers and documents ready. As i mentioned before I am a graduate student, which means that I already have a degree in medicine but cannot start my specialty untill I know finnish sufficiently. In case you can provide me with any info on a house ,a job or intensive (but reasonable priced)finnish lessons,I appreciate it.
*Wow* SO much for an ambitious plan of learning of Finnish...asap.... (It takes at least a year to Learn Finnish and that requires Full time courses)
and so much for practicing medicine..which requires intricate names in Finnish of all the medical terms for which graduates here go through some umteen years of schooling...
so much for having the confidence that a medical university will even recognize your degree.. ( have you found out about this?)
and so much for having a plan of not actually saying where you want to complete your specialty?
and what kind of jobs are you looking at? Practitioners? and without Finnish? Meanwhile how will you manage to pay rent and living expenses?

Actually most, if not all medical terms are in latin ;) That's the easy part for me when I read a patient's file.

sandrou wrote:As I said I am looking for a job(anything decent requiring english speaking staff).
which part of "There are none for people without niche skills and qualifications and Finnish.." didnt you get? Have you read the threads here and read the stickies?
I am also looking for intensive lessons because I just want to come to Finland(Helsinki)to have my specialty(which is it,concerns only me)there.
Good intention and thinking..but you are looking at diametrically opposite requirements for both... Learn Intensive Finnish for many years to attain Medical skills
OR
Learn your specialty..for which you ll not get paid and ll not have a job and ll need to support yourself..
I have already searched it through and the specialty there is totally recognizable in my home country.
Doesnt help you to get a Job here as your medical qualifications might not be valid here..
I have all my papers ready.
Fo what?
I know the whole thing is hard and difficult, but that is what I want to do.
What you want ot do might not be the way that you want to do..it could be a different way to do what you want to do..
So,if you don't have any useful info I would appreciate it if you weren't so negative because things are alredy difficult enough for me in my home country.Thanks.
[/quote] For the useful question that you asked, there was relevant useful info. provided..and its not being negative than being realistic..
This is Finland where people want their doctors n practitioners to speak At least Finnish ( if not Swedish)..as well as English ( To keep up with research etc)
So Trying to hide behind your medical degree here aint going to help you..no matter how difficult it could be..
and the other side is always greener for people wanting to leave and fly away from their problems at home.. How do you expect a totally foreign country to yours ll make you feel?
If things are bad at home, this ll be your worst nightmare..no friends, no money no job, no rent payment, etc etc..
At least in your home country, you have a degree for which you can find work..get paid, pay rent..buy books n food etc etc..

So what happens when a patient describes an acute pain in the abdomen in Finnish? Any Latin terms on that please?

I'd say it is quite feasible. In Finland there is real shortage of medical staff. However, the easiest way to get here for you to search for student (or part grad) exchange program. You should search, not here but at your home country. Universities have exchange plans and you should check it there.

Shortage does not equal taking in people who haven't got even rudimentary ability to communicate with patients.

Yeah, one nurse in arvauskeskus was apparently russian with really poor finnish. But then again, she was there just to do monotonous duty of taking blood samples.

Not in all Europe or World countries it is possible. When its not possible to pay rent, food, other expenses with the salary (because sometimes amount of salary is the same as rent price) in the home country, THEN people run from there.
Imagine. My boyfriend found a job in our home country. This job is for chemist, laborant. This job requires good knowledge of chemistry, that means you have to have a degree. That means that you should get much more than a minimum salary. Then the company searches for a laborant, they offer a MINIMUM SALARY! can you imagine that?? Minimum salary in our home country now is about 200euro and the living expenses are becoming the same as here. So imagine yourself, getting 200euro, paying rent, food and other expenses.
And of course he didn't take that job. He says - better I go to Ireland and wash dishes for 1500euro.

That is why people are running...

Do you think that the job maket is different here...most employers like to pay the minimum salary too to many qualified people...
Thats the choice they have here..too But because of Unions ( NOT LAWS), they would rather not hire than pay someone high wages..
So there goes the job opportunity both for the company and the potential employee..
So where would you rather be.. Work sometime in the home country and the move or take the risk..move and find yourself jobless for a very long time...OR find jobs that does not make sense to your qualification or get stuck with jobs that you dont like to do like washing dishes ( Nothing wrong with it if you want to do it..)

Don't reflex that much about language. In each case it is very individual, depends on position, colleagues, etc. If person is good the English will be quite enough.

If I remember correctly, he is just a fresh grad, right? Then minimum salary will be just enough for few years. These are very normal conditions for just a student.

Especially when one needs to take blood from the hand does it from the butt..
especially when one needs to give pain killer medicine through the drip gives it through a jab..
especially when yksi kymmenta tai kymmenen milli is a hundred ml!! when it comes to a sleeping dose
especially when the kidney operation is carried out by removing a tonsils..
yes the English language helps in setting things straight After the fact that you realize that in order to work in the medical profession( no matter what Schrecher tells about someone working taking blood samples..for I know first hand..what it means to get different Blood samples using different pippettes and syringes and mini tubes )  , The only Languages acceptable to the local population getting treatment is Finnish ( and Swedish) and to a certain extent Russian!!
and yes, the TEO ll take it very lightly as well as the hospital will commend on a person demonstrating the skills of their medical treatment with animals!!

Russian? are you crazy? if we're forced to learn finnish (not complaining about learning the language, i actually like it) so should the russians.

Also is there anytime anybody would actually use yksikymmentä? it looks kinda stupid and sounds it too when i say it outloud.
