Finland-anti foreigners attitudes?????
Re: Finland-anti foreigners attitudes?????
I dont think Finland is really Anti-Foreigner i think Finland just being so far North and remote is not as international in mentality as most other countries are , though i think that is changing fast.
Any country where you dont speak the language its going to be difficult to find work, only tips i can give is be prepared it may take time and take the time to learn some finnish even if it is difficult, Finnish people appreciate you trying.

I'm pretty sure in Finland there is no any anti foreigners attitudes. In general, any discrimination is very un-constructive, but Finns are pretty rational.
Next, look how many foreigns here, from very different countries. Again, no discrimination or bad feeling about them.
Some people might mistreat some reticence of Finns or they sort of coldness as no willing to communicate with foreigners, which can be later again misunderstood as discrimination. This is incorrect, as those are feature of the Nordic nature: less talk, do more.

Actually there are Finns who DO have "anti-foreigner" attitudes...they may be small in number - nevertheless they are out there! A good example is the Finnish political party True Finns (Perussuomalaiset) that oppose immigration to Finland.
Suomi, perussuomalaiset ja maahanmuuttajat
Blatant racism!

Re: Finland-anti foreigners attitudes?????
Oh, I am an abolitionist. It is such an evil deed to bring foreigners here. They suffer so much, the poor id... nnocents. My heart bleeds how they whine and complain and bitch and moan how Finland is horrible, the wicked Finns speak Finnish and most shocking is that Finland is a "foreign country"... :not to mention the car tax, tv-licence fee, and the problem of finding hellmanns mayo, branston pickle and the worst...Jason Wright wrote: A good example is the Finnish political party True Finns (Perussuomalaiset) that oppose to immigration to Finland.

Finland is no better and no worse than any given country in the world, theres always space for improvement and theres always someplace else that is worse. A lot of people just get shocket that for the first time in their life they are the foreigners being discriminated against. There is no Pardise on Earth. Except maybe in those JW magazines the old grannies hand out. Perussuomalaiset is on the tame side of nationalist parties in the EU, on the global scale they're bleeding liberals. Or is the problem they are too tame? Oh, the horror, what *do* the people think of us? Imagine now some white anglo-saxon supremacist feels morally superior to us poor ignorant Finns we only have some assclown party like Perussuomalaiset? Should they go prancing around in white bedsheets and burn crosses? My god, we can't even get that right. Such a miserable nation we are.

Re: Finland-anti foreigners attitudes?????
I think there are governments run by parties similar to "perussuomalaiset" that will not permit these people immigrate to their countries so they come to Finland. Once Finland allows them to "come in", they want someone, anyone to tell them how happy we are here in Finland to have the privelege to educate you, support you and feed you. If they don't get hugs, loves and handouts they whine, bitch and moan. Maybe the Finnish people would do well to listen to what the "perussuomalaiset" have to say.

Re: Finland-anti foreigners attitudes?????
well, there's no point let people in Finland who will increase the tax burden by exhausting the welfare system (excluding certain number of refugees). I don't think Perussuomalaiset are against immigrants who will contribute to the society and more or less support themselves. The Finns opposing the immigration are against (mostly male) refugees, who will only try to abuse the welfare system.mrjimsfc wrote:I think there are governments run by parties similar to "perussuomalaiset" that will not permit these people immigrate to their countries so they come to Finland. On related news in HS, the number of non-Finns committing crimes in relation to native population is quite a lot higher. This is probably due to certain amount of cultural differences (sex crimes), but also frustration with the current system.
However, Finns can only provide tools for integration, and if the immigrants don't really try to integrate and make a life for themselves here, there's not much that can be done. However Finland can't offer everything on a silver platter to everyone aspiring to move to Finland.
It's a 2 way street, Finland should also benefit from immigrants, not just the immigrants.

Re: Finland-anti foreigners attitudes?????
Finland had the highest murder rate per population in western europe a couple of years ago, i would presume it was mainly native finns commiting those crimes, using crime is always an easy way to try and put a certain viewpoint across.
Re: Finland-anti foreigners attitudes?????
so we should ignore these facts and forgive those people for just "being misunderstood"Dodsy wrote:Finland had the highest murder rate per population in western europe a couple of years ago, i would presume it was mainly native finns commiting those crimes, using crime is always an easy way to try and put a certain viewpoint across.
- from 2000 onwards, 40% of the rapes are committed by non-Finns in Helsinki
- from 2000 onwards, 30% of the robberies and extortions are committed by non-Finns in Helsinki
- from 2000 onwards, 17% of the severe assaults and batteries are committed by non-Finns in Helsinki
- from 2000 onwards, 14% of the murders and manslaughters are committed by non-Finns in Helsinki
According to the Helsinki Police, the violent crimes committed by non-Finns tend to be more cruel than those committed by Finns.
8.6% of the people in Helsinki are non-Finns. Put that in perspective, when you think about why some Finns don't want immigrants in Finland.

i have never seen those stats before but i find them quite shocking to read and in no way should they be ignored they should definetly be taken into account and even analysed more as non finns is the whole world ,they should list which countries imo and then deal with it...

Must say, they didn't shock me in the slightest.Dodsy wrote:i have never seen those stats before but i find them quite shocking to read
I remember the metropolitan police commissioner in London getting a bad rap a few years ago when he analysed some crime statistics and stated that the non-white population of London committed a disproportionate percentage of crime compared to their numbers (of course there is an explanation for this)). Many ethnic minority groups called for him to be sacked IIRC. He got a telling off and was told not to come out with such figures again. But don't worry, after a few years Finland will catch up, the media will be given their instructions, and you will never read such statistics again

Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
