Any good rewards visa/mc Cards yet? Rivisiting Older Thread

Post by Xochiquetzal » Mon Feb 18, 2008 10:30 am

I know this was posted last year and there wasn't much then - but I was hoping things had improved in a year. Anyone have a good rewards Visa/MC? I saw that the S-Chain has a new one but it didn't look very exciting :/

Diners club rewards re pretty good..as you can buy restaurant coupons etc as well as spa coupons, cruises ...
They also tie in with SAS points if you want that.

Nordea offers the Finnair Mastercard whereas Sampo offers the Finnair Visa card. Both cards boil down to more or less the same. I am using one of those since almost two years and I still think that it is worth using it. During this year, I guess I get enough points for a free return flight within Europe (combined with the regular points earned through flying). After that, I must reconsider if I will continue to use this card. At that point in time, when I started to use it, there was practically no free credit card available for ordinary people like me. So the fee for the Finnair credit card (was it 60€/year or so) was worth it, as the next cheaper option would have been some 30€/year. Now there are a few options of "free" credits cards available and I must recalculate everything to decide if I gonna continue the Finnair thing or to opt for a free alternative.

+1 - especially if you are a good money manager and spend everything with it you can rack up good air miles. Also apparently no charge on foreign transactions and quite competitive on foreign cash withdrawals (well compared to the worst UK banks like Lloyds anyway). And you get a holiday insurance package with the Finnair Mastercard...

I pay everything that's possible by credit card. I would not recommend it to everyone, it has some risks, too... And I am in the fortunate situation that my mother who likes to travel a lot is not so versed with the internet, so she always asks me to book a flight for her, she'll pay me back in cash :ochesey: .

The holiday insurance package with the Finnair Mastercard is only valid if you pay the trip with this card. But I do not value this too high, as any "old fashioned" travel insurance does not cost too much and has much better conditions. Eg. my insurance from Tapiola costs only 40€/year and covers any leisure trip more than 50km away from one's normal living or working place. And as I often go to ride by bike, the insurance that comes with Mastercard would not cover if something happens on many of my trips.

Well, if you live somewhere you should have "home insurance" usually covering a travel insurance.

Oh, "Wisdom of Hank" ONLY AN IDIOT DOES NOT HAVE AN INSURANCE (even you live on rent you should have a home insurance)

Maybe usually, but not all. I could have had my insurance package 40€ cheaper without the travel insurance.
