"Greater Helsinki" 4 Cities - and their differences

Post by sinikettu » Wed Feb 27, 2008 2:17 pm

Helsinki Sanomat fun..
Comparing the (genaralised) images of the "typical" resident of the 4 cites that make up "Greater Hesinki"
http://www.hs.fi/english/article/Statis ... 5234365652

My favorite is Rouva Espoo..
Residents of Finland's "second city" (by population) have a reputation for being snooty, arrogant, and overly fond of Burberry and Lacoste. The fur-clad vision (in the picture) probably does not live in an apartment in Leppävaara, but rather in a house on Espoo's "Gold Tooth Coast" of Westend and Haukilahti.
Enjoy..the rest...I have to admit that the picture of Rouva Vantaa does look familiar

People do not become more irritable as they grow old - they simply stop making the effort to avoid annoying others.

In recent years, this has often meant heading out beyond the four cities that traditionally make up the metropolitan area, populating places like Kirkkonummi, Vihti, Nurmijärvi, and Sipoo.
The downside is a long and often gridlocked commute and a yearning for better services like shops and entertainment.
"often gridlocked commute"...maybe a small price to pay to live in a place where all the schools, halls, houses, lakes, ski tracks, forests are in walking distance of each other - ie you don't need to play taxi before and after work and all weekend.. :D

Yes, I agree. "Gridlocked commute" by Nordic standards p'haps but a Walk In The Park compared to Paris, London etc
