..I reckon its a small country mentality..same in New Zealand. People don't like to touch the brakes or change down gears - they're not used to it. So when you dare to pull into moving traffic and use a pedestrian crossing in traffic, their point of view is 'HOW DARE YOU INCONVENIENCE ME!'.

Its like someone walking in front of you and stopping mid-step.

Just this morning I saw a bus driver hitting the red light while talking on the phone.
And not long ago there was a picture in the Metro or Sata taken by a reader with his/her cellphone of a police officer in a police van talking on his cell phone.
So people care, really, they do... As long as the authority doesn't stick to the law, they can't expect the people to do the same.

actually it's legal to use a mobile phone when driving a car, but you need to use a handsfree set or built-in handsfree on car's audio system.
Get in there...

I was close to flying up in the air off of some fooker's windshield about a month or so back - all under the unfortunately meaningless gaze of the 'little green man'. Couldn't believe it. Waited for the green man, checked left, right, up, down and behind as it seems you have to, and started to cross. Not far from reaching the other side, I clocked some old estate/station wagon thing coming hurtling from around the corner of the junction. The swine (woman, actually) obviously hadn't slowed down at all for the junction despite other vehicles having stopped, and at this relatively-stupid speed turned left without breaking, straight into a pedestrian crossing (with lights and all the trimmings), gambling on nothing being unfortunate enough to be crossing the road at the time. This woman was on her goddamned mobile phone and actually fooking honked the horn at me! No attempt at even slowing down, just a honk!

I'm quite sure I should've frozen and sh*t my pants, but the only response I mustered, and I'm not a confrontational person by any means, was to keep moving and present her with the middle finger just before she zoomed behind me. :x Fu*kwit. Sadly, as noted above, many Helsinki residents fail to deal with crossings and even red lights properly on straight roads

The only things Finnish traffic police are intrested in are speed limits and drunk drivers. Other than that you can do whatever you want.

This happens only in some areas.. In 51, there are many places where people just zoom on even to oncoming traffic!!
