water birth?

Post by kcl » Sun Feb 10, 2008 7:27 pm

Has anyone had experience with water birth in Finland? I've been learning more about it and would really like to pursue this method of giving birth.

And one more question: Is there an aqua gym instructor for pregnant women in Helsinki/Espoo area?
I would appreciate any info you have on this

Thanks

I can't help you in regards to having water births in Finland... but my wife had water births for both our children in New Zealand and they were very good births.

This is something that you have to talk about in your neuvola. I just did a search "vesisynnytys" and gor numerous links. But no adresses, just a statement " Vesialtaita löytyy tätä nykyä useimmista sairaaloista" (nowadays most hospitals have water tubs (?)).

The hospital in Tammisaari specializes in water birth and can give you useful information if you call them.

I was visiting the Naisten Clinic yesterday, and they told me that they got the tub, but only for the first stage, not for giving birth, because no midwife went to the course to learn how to do it.

They have one in Jorvi as well, but no mention of giving birth in it, just to ease the contractions.

I just moved to Finland 3 months ago and am in the process of setting up my business and was searching for some input in this forum...
I am a certified Hypnobirthing practitioner. A lot of our births are waterbirths, the main focus being natural birth. You can go to http://www.hypnobirthing.com for more information and also contact me if you want. I am still in the process of finding care providers/midwives/nurses who are willing to support Hypnobirthing, so I will check out all those hospitals with tubs . I hope to be able to offer a Hypnobirthing class very soon .
Wishing you a wonderful birthing day, Mona

Aktiivinen synnytys ry rents water tubs - for 50 euros+ freight.

(check at the bottom of the page: vuokrauspalvelut - synnytysaltaat)
