Don't put words into my mouth i never said "English" would be the Euro language, we learn French at school in the UK if you didn't know! i hope yuour not in a position of any authoritiy as you sound very "backward" thinking. Every man and country needs to move with the times. Even if you don't like it, more and more jobs in Finland require the person to (also) speak english. You hold onto the past you get left behind.Tiwaz wrote:So you presume to suggest that everyone would switch to english?
Sorry, english is lingua franca but every nation will stick to their languages for any forseeable future. It means everyone better learn language of country they plan to stay in, instead of having wishful dreams of world speaking only english.
Companis will not change their working language to english for one or two foreigners, they instead do not hire immigrants.
You will have died of old age far before joblife has turned into one where finnish no longer is requirement for majority of duties in Finland.
WORK IN FINLAND

Re: WORK IN FINLAND
I dont think that not hiring a foreign worker is backward thinking or non-adapting to a global world. Finland is doing a Fantastic job of having a great balance..
and I dont see where more and more jobs in Finland require speaking English!! If the customers are Finnish, where is the need to serve in English?
and if you are thinking about R&D, back-end jobs, etc etc, Those are already slated to be outsourced to other countries and managed remotely from here!!
The need for those jobs are already shrinking!! Finland is already growing up higher in the value chain!!
The need for jobs involving civic duties are increasing for which immigrants might be able to capitalize on if they speak only English!!

Re: WORK IN FINLAND
Well for a start when I go to stockman I see the badges with various flags with which languages they speak! Some have at least five! Do you think they are catering just for Finns? I’d say soon any job that deals with the public will require the employee to be multi lingual. and i'd say when this Euro language does come along it will be English just for the fact that the americans speak it!

Because it is in big city where there are lots of tourists.antstar wrote:Well for a start when I go to stockman I see the badges with various flags with which languages they speak! Tourists can't speak local so people have to speak foreign languages to the,

How many of those badges do you see in Stockmann in Turku, or Tapiola as compared to HEL?
Do you see any of those badges in the S and K markets in Kirkkonummi or Tikkurila or Lahti or Oulu?

Re: WORK IN FINLAND
i am in tampere and i see it! also the move people move around the EU the more it will be needed!, If you reead back my post i am talking up and coming not here and now. I think in business you need to think ahead, like the chinese do and germans, Finland is too much of a re-active country.

Re: WORK IN FINLAND
In business, you do the math first on what you know!! not worry about what you dont know!!
you only need to know the risk of what you dont know!! so which part of business are you in?
and WTF do you mean by a reactive country? which country is not reactive?
( if you re thinking proactive, then your perceived facts are absolutely useless as Finland's governments' policies and actions are one of the most proactive in the world)

Re: WORK IN FINLAND
I also find some of your comments insulting Tiwas! do you think you have more immigrants thne other european countries? that you kick them into a bottomless pit? and the say you want them to speak finnish/swedish or be the odd one out? i also question your place on a forumm for foreigners when you clearly have a grudge against them. i knew many more Finns in England then english in Finland. Did we kick them into a pit? no! they were all in job and housing without having to join the Kela "merry-go-round"

Re: WORK IN FINLAND
please try and keep your language civil raamv, and i would say chinese, americans and germans are certainly not re-active! of course not 100% as each country are ´different. but if a conversation best for a bar in kinda difficult tio keep one going this way. especially when the inital point has moved.
Also some of your comment in the past have come acroos to some as "negative" is it that you have found your paradise ánd wish that it does not become overrun by others?

The prediction of the future has nothing to do with reactive governments!!
and you cannot predict 100% accurately.. if you cant even differentiate between scenario predictions and strategy formulation you are as good as things written on paper!!

and just quoting only a text of what I wrote took it out of context that shows what kind of thinking that you have!!
