It appears that you don't have to speak Finnish. Of course it's out in the sticks just a little further than Nowheremaki (near Goose Rapids) but it pays pretty good if you can run a chain saw and drive a tractor (I think they mean "logging truck"). If you're interested, try
this job.

Oops, my bad! It's located just south of Big Town (Isokylä), a little closer to Nowheremaki than Goose Rapids is.

Socialism has never managed to create anything beyond corpses, poverty and oppression.

For this country. "176 h" is average amount of working hours per month. 1672 is the approximate monthly salary by rate above. Of course, a person might survive on it, but it is just exploiting the worker.

actually 157.5h is the official working hours per month for most jobs. But often this kind of work is done by the hour and not by month, so the monthly salary is often higher as lumber work is seasonal and most of that is done by farmers and such.

I think the point is, can one live on less than €1800 per month? Not just survive, but live.

I earn €8.78 an hour (€17.56 an hour on sundays) and i am living, not just surviving. It depends on what your definition of living is. I earn enough in a month to pay my bills and get food. plus i have plenty extra to have a decent social life. But then again i am only 23 and don't have any kids.

Sure, when I was 23 my salary was $300 and I was pretty happy with it.

It is quite a good salary if the other option is being unemployed. Plus, it gives working experience and experience on how to deal with Finnish employers, Finnish customers and Finns in general. This is worth more then gold if someone wants to learn how not to behave like a foreigner and later being able to sucesfully apply for better jobs.

Thanks COBHC and Donald for putting things into perspective. The consensus is, if you're young, strong and not afraid of some hard work, then this might be a pretty good opportunity for you.
