Stud Finder

Post by Oiva » Wed Mar 26, 2008 10:29 pm

Hi folks!
The subject title should be "wall mounting a tv" but I thought "stud finder" should grab the attention of a few more of ye! I've bought a new T.v and I want to mount it on the wall but despite all attempts to find the joint/stud, all I'm left with is a wall so completely dotted with X marks that if you should take a step back and close one eye you can see the Mona Lisa. I live in a Rintamamiestalo and so my only option is to attach the T.v to a joint/stud.
So, if you know how I can locate a "stud finder" ( I'm a joints man meself) I'd be very grateful. Can I hire from Rami rent or any others up in Tampere? What is stud finder in Finnish? Theres one fer ye!!
Thanks a lot,
oipa.

I'm right here!! (figured somebody would, so why not me?)

I've seen a few at Bauhaus for sale, not too expensive. can't imagine renting something that costs under 50€.

The other option is take a nail and a hammer. Down low near the floor molding, tap the nail into the wall until it hits a stud. Measure the distance off the wall, and replicate it up near the TV. Small holes down near the molding are easy to patch and are not very noticeable.

Good luck.

Thanks Mikie,
I had tried finding the studs through tapping nails behind the Molding/skirting boards but there was a solid piece of timber running all the way parallel to the floor behind the molding but it was a different kettle of fish higher up the wall. However I strolled into the local tool renters and there it was; a stud finder a.k.a "koolinkitutka" at 12 euros/day. Worked out well. The T.v. is were the Mona Lisa was and now the moomins look great again!! Cheers

Clas Ohlson has some nice gadget. Just this past week I was looking at a Black & Decker laser leveling tool and it comes with steel/wood/live wire detector...for 59euro....
