Food items in Oulu

Post by sgunjan » Tue Mar 25, 2008 4:15 am

I will be in Oulu this summer for a internship. I will be residing near the University of Oulu area and probably have to cook my food. Can someone please tell me if rice, vegetables and pulses readily available in Oulu as they are in India. If yes, how much do they cost and what is the best place to buy such items.

No, you have to go on the ice to hunt for your own penguins. And then collect the soft bark from underneath the pine trees.

Don't eat the Penguins, they are so cute. Eat Seals or polar bears may be.

Everything is available in Oulu. Rice, Pulses and Vegetables you get in normal super markets, k-market, S-Market, Prisma, Alepa, yadda yadda

price, 1 Kg Basmati rice - around 3Euros
Pulses - 2 to 3 Euros per kg
Vegetables
Potato - 60 to 70 cents per kg
Onion - 99 cents per kg
Tomatooes - 2€ per kg(non Suomi) 6€ per kg (Suomi )
Broccoli - 3€ per kg
Kukkakali (Cauliflower) - around 4€ per kg

Phew! can't type more. Better to hunt Penguins.

Before landing in Finland, I am sure 50% of people think they will get to see Polar Bear. This guy was thinking of Oulu, so close to pole and hence polar bear :D

Hi

Oulu has very active Indian community (presently 150 ). You will not feel lonely here. Vegetables and Asian food items are available in two Asian food shops in Oulu. In Linnamaa at Oulu University residential apartments, you will find many Indians. Here I may suggest you to join O-India group http://groups.google.com/group/o-india to socialize with other Indians living in Oulu.

Welcome to Oulu.

Since I am assuming that you have a south Indian name and would be using Tamarind and Dal ( Thoor), you might want to bring them when you come here that will last for a week or so so that you dont start complaining of the prices of those items here..
