Where to buy: 0.02 mm cable connectors.

Post by network_engineer » Thu Apr 24, 2008 12:24 pm

Hi all,

Anybody here have an idea where to buy, for lack of a better term, a female "wire-extending-connectors", i.e. small plastic things with say three or more sockets (holes if you prefer) where you plug in the main cable and then extend it with other cables as needed? It is known by different terms, including jumper, shorter, etc. I know that you can it for normal 0.08 mm from Bauhaus or ClahOhlson, but I need it for very thin cables, thinner than the core in the Ethernet cable. :?:

The problem I am trying to solve: We have couple of extensions to the main cable (telephone/DSL) in the house. The previous asinine owner of the house cut two of four cables to two of the locations, so, I get the DSL connection to only one socket. I need to fix this back. Any idea where I can get these connectors? Or *who* I can call to have it done. It would be then asinine of me since I am trained to work with networks and should not have to hire somebody to do it in my backyard! :x

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Neil beat me to partco. But you can also browse through the Biltema and Clas Ohlson catalogs to see what you need as they have pretty much a lot of cables n connectors and extenders.

Hi all,

Thanks.Found "something" along the lines of what I was looking for at YE. All to do with RJ-45, i.e. a socket, + splitters + the cheapest crimping tool and some cable markers. "#¤%&/ 50 bucks. Would have been less than $20 at Frys. A fiber patch cable costs costs about 20 €.

I am usually the quiet type, but ¤%&/()=? /&)(= %/&() :x :x :x

Of course its too late, but didn't Biltema have RJ-45 stuff? And CO surely had cabling stuff? Or Verkkokaupps?

No, not really. Or then I did not see it. The normal RJ-45 plugs were cheap enough, the non-crimping RJ-45 socket was 8 €/kpl, (should me 4 €) and the cheapest crimping tool was 26 € (and its not even from a reputable company), and the markers (something that you can use to tag the cables and should not be more than 2 € (at least in Fry's, I remember it was $ .80 (yeah, eighty cents) was 8 € at YE. Yeesh!

PS: What's CO? You mean my company? Mostly use fibre or then standard patches. But even we had at the company, I would not take it from there without someone giving me an approval.

Cheers,

Hi Hank,

Yeah, should've done that. But who uses copper these days? Even the servers come with FO interfaces. I have seen tons of FO and copper patch cables. I guess it is priced high since they are "exotic" :x  That being said, I don't think the prices would be the worst thing in my day today, have to explain my wife the 50 EUR I spent on "what exactly"  :D

Kind regards.
