Thed best is the only one to Rostock. Finnlines goes to Travemünde, but if you think Tallink is expensive then you just need to whine on the shore (or do the Via Baltica).

You can also take the ferry to Tallinn and drive from there...nidhal wrote:No way to go by car by passing through Russia! You don't go through Kaliningrad on "Via Baltica", silly. Tallin-Riga is a straight highway, it gets only a bit dodgy after you pass Lithuania to Poland.nidhal wrote:No way to go by car by passing through Russia! Well there are also those funny immigration checks that might need some underhandling!!

Re: going from Helsinki to Rostock by ferry!
I heard their prices had gone up steeply this year. I suggest you keep your ears and eyes open for special offers... they might be desperate for customers later in the season.nidhal wrote:Hi guys, what´s the best ferry company which brings my car from Helsinki to Rostock ? any help ? i checked Tallink already but it was quite expensive. I went from Rostock to Helsinki with Tallink and it was ok, I was not able to find other reliable option, didn't want to drive through eastern Poland to Tallinn.
You can go to Stockholm by ferri, and then drive the car to Denmark, if you have time and want to visit some places. I don't think you'll get significantly cheaper though. Just imagine that the pricing (marketing) guys from Tallink have done their homework, and since they are the only ones to go to Rostock with a decent ship... (Finnlines is targeted to cargo and trucks, you only have one cafeteria on board, and fixed menu, no nice bar or boutique as I have heard).

Re: going from Helsinki to Rostock by ferry!
It is worth checking it out. For years I went that way because it was both faster and cheaper. Nowadays (with new ships on the Helsinki-Traavemunde route) it is no faster, but is still cheaper. Also a nicer journey to my mind, but that is a personal preference.MTB wrote:You can go to Stockholm by ferri, and then drive the car to Denmark, if you have time and want to visit some places. Didn't see anyone mention ... I haven't used it myself, but there is a company that sails from Trelleborg in the South of Sweden to Rostock or Travemunde
http://www.ttline.se/
So, Hki - Stockholm by whichever ferry, drive down to Trelleborg (650km) then the ferry south to Rostock... (or Travemunde).

Theres also to calculate in the equation the crossing from Sweden to Denmark, theres either bridge tolls or ferry tickets there too.

Re: going from Helsinki to Rostock by ferry!
I have considered that route but never used it. Going from memory I reckon it would save about 250km of driving but take about 4 hours more, and that trade-off has never suited my schedule. The ferry prices for that route look OK though. I might try it sometime.sinikala wrote:there is a company that sails from Trelleborg in the South of Sweden to Rostock or Travemunde
