I know what your trying to explain Tiwaz, it's just that everybody is too rigid in their thinking and won’t budge, so we just get the same "discussion" all the time. It's just gets abit tiresome.

But... on a lighter note, mine is also blue, so you do have things in common with foreigners! but... don't think i'm trying to impose my choice of blue on your choice of blue!

I dunno...the "logic" still seems suspect to me... "Finnish" blood equals "Finnish" to me... Though perhaps, with some unfortunate "foreign damage" to contend with... And "long blond hair"....hmmmmm ...Suggests some potential for "HBS", methinks...

Sunday openings or unregulated times for keeping stores open might work in for example New York like charm. Cheap labour, huge amount of potential customers.

We here in little Finland got less customers in whole goddamn country which is size of Montana. And with high labour costs

Stuff just does not work that way.
Stores can't afford shutting down to save if competitors are open. And if there is no regulation, someone is bound to try to keep store open in hope that others do not (and thus gain all commerce during this time).
At the same time, when everyone is open there is not enough customers to cover their costs.

It is just cruel facts of small population versus big country and apparently something that tends to go beyond grasp of some people.

Finland...............Population 5,308,208...Area 338,145 sq. km =15.4 people per sq km
British Columbia ...Population 4,413,973...Area 944,735 sq km = 4.67 people per sq km

F...GDP (nominal) $193B ...$44,912 per capita
BC..GDP (nominal, I think) ...$179B ..$41,689 per capita...(before recent rapid rise in CA$)

Both are "northern", and mostly "cold", and rather "remote"...population tends to be in "south"...

BC has had "Sunday shopping" for years ...about 1981... Even though it seems to be a "dead issue" here now, I don't think it's a good idea and I certainly don't think it's particularly good for MOST small businesses... The "chains", with their economies of scale, of course, love it...but even they can't seem to manage 24/7 store hours, though some, i.e. "Home Depot", have tried...

Must be something else going on...Perhaps the high retail costs in Finland are a GOOD THING...allows a higher AVERAGE [EDIT: Haaa...Caught this before someone decided to slap me....of course it isn't AVERAGE, what I meant was MEDIAN]...wage level...not so many people trying to survive on $8 an hour service industry jobs....but the egocentric among us wouldn't understand such a concept...though, I guess, you would, Tiwaz... And besides, I don't know, I don't live in Finland... So just consider these some "stray thoughts"...
