Tulli - selling imported car question
I imported a car into Finland. At what point would I be able to sell it without paying tax? Is it one year after the date of import or one year after the car was officially registered with finnish plates? I declared the import the day we came but it wasnt registered until about 15. months after that. thanks for any help.

Well you can sell a car in Finland without paying taxation in only one case: u need to own the car at least 6 months before your moving to Finland and you need to be out of Finland at least 2 years! its called MOVING CAR so you dont need to pay any taxation and u can sell it of course. I had the same situation when i moved from Germany to Finland! u can always check www.tulli.fi it will say the same! have a good luck.Toddtheisen wrote:I imported a car into Finland. Re: Tulli - selling imported car question
I came to Finland from Germany where I owned my car for longer than six months. I was able to import it without taxation, but I have heard that you cant sell it for one year after arriving or you will have to pay the tax after all. I couldnt find anything on the Tulli site now.
Re: Tulli - selling imported car question
Things may have changed in the 6 years since I imported a motorbike (same rules apply),
but as I recall, the rule was you have to have own the vehicle and had it insured for road
usage for 3 years before you could sell it tax-free.
At least 12 months of those 3 years have to be in Finland, meaning in the case of a motorbike
that is insured for road use 6 months a year, I could only sell it after 2 summers, even though
I owned it in the Uk for 4 years before moving to Finland. (I still have it btw).

It is confusing as heck with the dates. Back in the "good old days" you had an endorsement in your title stating the date of "release".
